as this is my first post ill start by introducing myself. my names mike and ive been messing around with diesels for quite a few years now. a few months back I purchased a clunker 2000 f350 7.3 2wd for work but today I noticed my o/d light flashing and it has been all day. I use the truck as a daily driver as well as towing my car trailer pretty often but today was easy highway and around town driving. the weird thing is the transmission isn't acting up at all, my speedo and tach are working fine and no abs light. also the tranny was supposedly rebuilt about 10k miles ago by a reputable tranny shop in my area. is there any way I can pull the trouble code without going to a dealer or tranny shop? like jumping a connector and counting the CEL flashes like you would on an older truck? any suggestions as to what this could be would help. i moved away from chevys because of tranny problems and i thought id be in the clear for a bit since this was just rebuilt. sorry for the long post, just trying to be thorough

also I had the same problem on my 2000 7.3 I drove it for a week without noticing an issue then one day it started shifting odd and locking into overdrive at about 35mph I got a scanner and took it to my trans mechanic he said I lost 3rd but he said it started with a bad converter and if I would have brought it in first time I seen the light I could have just got a converter. then when I built the trans it came back on because of metal shavings in the fluid after about 8k miles. I changed fluid and didn't have another issue. just a possibility

Flushing it isn't bad, but it isn't going to fix what's wrong. To start fixing it you need to know what codes have been stored. The places that read codes free can't read these codes, you need a good independent shop or a Ford dealer.
