7.3 Head gaskets

I am going to remove my heads to install new valve springs and to inspect the top end of the engine.
Here is my question Which head gaskets are the best.

Ford, they want $120 each for them

International, they want $95 each

Then I went to the local parts store and asked for Fle-Pro and they were only $28 a set.

What gives, With pushing between 60 to 70 PSI of boost which head gasket do I want to run?? Don't much care how much as long as they last.

Can any one shed any light on this??

Re: 7.3 Head gaskets

You will want Fire Rings. Call Wide Open. At 70 lbs, I doubt stock gaskets will hold. 801-233-1111.

Re: 7.3 Head gaskets

You better stud it and fire ring it or you are likely to launch a head right off the engine.

For a stock to near stock truck you are correct.

Re: 7.3 Head gaskets

FYI there's absolutely no reason to pull the heads off for valve springs! Throw some H-11 studs on it and go.

Re: 7.3 Head gaskets

Id say go with the international ones.... But if you have the heads off, there is no reason not to fire ring it just to save yourself in the future

Re: 7.3 Head gaskets

I know I don't have to remove the heads to install the springs. I just want to inspect everything before I start the pulling season.

I'd say don't. Different thickness of gasket.

I would not pull the heads to do this. If you have to though... use advice below.

Stock gaskets will hold as long as they are aged. However they will not hold if they are new.
