1997 f350 DRW 4x2 to 4x4 conversion.

I have been reading a lot of the threads. Maybe someone could point me in the right direction. I am just trying to gather as much info as i can about converting my 97 f350 psd DRW from 2 wheel drive to 4x4. I have purchased a 89 dana 60 with brakes, track bar and bracket, sway bar and steering linkage. No leaf springs but i was thinking about getting a tuff country 4" lift that comes with springs anyway. I know the conversion is posable but not much info about it. I guess my question is what info can you give me about this conversion. Like what parts that are on the truck that will work with this conversion. Also the axle i bought is off of SRW truck. Will changing over the hubs to DRW be hard to do. Thanks for your time for any info you can give me.

Simply follow the threads on swapping in the d60 for a srw truck. The only difference is that you will have to swap over to a set of drw front hubs. I don't know your location but I can hook you up with a set of hubs my buddy has for sale. The other things you will need are a 4x4 trans, transfer case, front drive shaft, and a shorter rear drive shaft. You will also need the harness from a 4x4 truck if you want the light to work for the 4 wheel.

wont you need to figure out the position of the spring mounts since your goin from a coil spring set up to a leaf set up?

Re: 1997 f350 DRW 4x2 to 4x4 conversion.

how much for the drw front hubs. I haven't really priced them. The axle i am getting has srw hubs. I have been reading every thread i could find on dana 60 conversions and most of them or for 4x4 equip truck. The trans and t-case can wait. the big part is getting the axle under truck. I would like to do zf6 swap on the truck. But dont know if that would work or not. One thing at a time i guess.

Re: 1997 f350 DRW 4x2 to 4x4 conversion.

I will call my buddy in the morning and get you a price on them. You would need to locate the spring hangers for a 4x4 for the rear of the front springs and you will need the shackles for the front. It is my understanding that some frames are drilled for the bolt for the shackles and some are not. You will need the shock bracket for a 4x4 as well. You will have to remove the coil spring perch on the frame from the 2wd. As far as using a zf6 goes you would need to clearance the floor hump as the zf6 is taller than a zf5.

So it is posable to do zf6. This project will get out of hand quick. I will have to go to the junk yard and start getting the rest of the parts. Thanks for the help.

Sky reverse shackle kit. We used one to convert a 4x2 to 4x4, makes life alot easier. And a nice upgrade to boot.

Re: 1997 f350 DRW 4x2 to 4x4 conversion.

i would do a shackel reverse kit on the truck that will get your leaf springs under the truck and then roll the axle under and bole it together will need to get the tuff country trac bar bracket to drop the trac bar. but just remeber that the shackle reverse kit will give you 3" more of lift
