Re: 04 5.4

Did they maintain the motor by changeing the oil? Low compresion? Also if this is the 3 valve make sure you read the service bullitin on how to remove the spark plugs before you go taking them out. Also if you tune it up and its a 3 valve use the champion plugs they are made as one peice and will not seperate in the head... Good luck

Re: 04 5.4

its pretty low mileage. i think its around 60,000 or less. havnt changed the plug or the fuel filter. just the oil/filter and keep the air cleaner clean. how big of a job is changing the plugs and the fuel filter?

Re: 04 5.4

what about the pcv valve and does cleaning the injedctors just involve putting cleaner in the fuel?

Re: 04 5.4

Vehicle is almost 6 years old and the fuel filters should be changed every 15-20k. PCV valve every year. Injector system cleaned every year. Injector cleaning costs about $100 most places. Plugs should last for 100k, but maybe not. Check one and see. My son's 2007 at 62k needed replacing, so they should be checked. PCV and fuel filter are easy. If you use Chevron gas, most injectors don't need a cleaning, but any other gas used regularly should use an injector cleaner additive every few tankfuls and that should keep them clean.

Re: 04 5.4

The injector cleaning is usually done at the dealer or at a Jiffy Lube, etc as it is a pressure cleaning system. As far as mileage gained, can't tell you, but the vehicle is bound to run better. Ever done a tranny fluid and filter change? Probably not, so get that done every 25-30k. If you want your vehicle to run good, you need to keep up with the regular maintenence issues, otherwise, it's a crap shoot.

Re: 04 5.4

The injrcotors needing cleaned I dont think you need to. Just go to wally world and get you one of the injrctor cleaner bottles to treat 30 gallons and use the whole bottle and use 93 octane gas. That should do fine if you are worried bout it. The only time we have ever cleaned injectors really is when we have a veichle that has been sitting for a long time and has a slight miss. Also the fuel filter is pretty easy to do. With the new ethonal gas we have seen more filters clogged then when it was just str8 gas. As for the spark plugs go let us know if it is the 3 valve per cylinder engine. If so I would suggest not doing it your self and taking it to automotive shop cause if a plug seperates you will be having nightmares trust me. If it is the 3 valve engine I would take it to a shop as soon as you can and get them replaced with the champions. The longer you wait the more carbon that builds up on the electrode it will seperate in the head and then you will have to pay more money to get that plug removed and if it does not come out with the tool guess what. You have to pull the head or most shops will suggest a new engine. Just letting you know from experience.
