Buying a 6.9

So this guy i work with has a 85 6.9 sc 4x4 that i'm going to buy. The truck had a fresh rebuild done to it and then sat out in the weeds for about 5 years now cause the owner didn't pay up. This thing besides the paint fading is in damn good shape. I was thinking about welding the rear spiders throughing some tractor tires on and hitting the trails. What are some ideas for a little extra get up and go.

Re: Buying a 6.9

crank up the pump a little add a egt guage and if your really into it get a turbo kit, that motor is best left in a mild state of tune if you want it to last.

Re: Buying a 6.9

buy a turbo kit crank the screw on the fuel pump till it wont go any more and have fun the 6.9 is a lot more reliable than most people think I ran that setup in my old truck with no problems it saw 13-15 psi boost on a regular basis

Re: Buying a 6.9

Make sure you go easy on the truck for a while and change the oil several times in the first 2000 miles or so. Diesel engines that sit for extended period of time like to spin main/rod bearings. Also may consider changing rubber fuel lines to the ulsd compatible lines so it doesn't spring a leak and leave you stranded. 6.9's are almost indestructable!!!!
