6.0 Coolant Filter Kit?

Im looking at a coolant filter kit for my 6.0. Just wondering how effective these are and are they worth the money? Here is a link to the kit im looking at:

I know Adam from FCDP suggested one for me, especially when we found out my oil cooler plugged on the coolant side from the casting sand. I'm not sure what all his kit includes, didn't go into it, but Stroker since you bought his EGR delete, try him out for the coolant filter.

Yes stroker it is a good idea, it will help in the long run Ive been running it as well exspecially for the price its well worth it.

I have the same kit. It was easy to install but when I did the banks IC I had to modify it a bit to fit.

A coolant filter for the 6.0 is not only effective, it's essential to long term reliability of the 6.0 motor.

On another site, I have a thread about a friend of mine that had to spend $2200 to have his oil cooler. EGR cooler and degas bottle replaced due to a cracked EGR cooler caused by the oil cooler plugging up with coolant debris.

I don't think it can be said enough: If you own a 6.0 PSD engine, you need a coolant filter installed on it.

Make sure to watch for the filter plugging up around the first 500-1200 miles. When it does and you replace it, take pics of the cut open filter.

I'd be interested to see what you had to do to make it fit. I've got the banks technicooler I/C too and am hesitant to buy the coolant filter kit because I wasn't sure if I could fit it in there...

I just got back from NAPA with the housing and filter.
I also have the Banks intercooler, so I can let you know how it goes.
The housing, and filter cost me $73.00
All the fittings cost another $35.00
I have some 3/8" stainless steel valves I can use already, so I saved a little there.

You fella's have to remember something...for me to pay $120.00 in US funds, and have it shipped up here to Canada, it would end up costing me well over $200.00

So, I think I saved quite a bit.

Will the Coolant Filter kit fit with a By-Pass Oil Filter installed too?

They both look like they end up in the same area.

Its not that hard once you figure it out. There is no hole in the Banks ic mounting tab for the main bolt in the kit so we had to drill one. Also to clear the filter we had to move the housing mount to the inside of the aluminum bracket and run the bolts from the other side and use washers to space it a little to clear the ic boot. I would post pics but I have never been able to get them to load on this site.

I just blow my heads off the block once a year. Keeps nice clean antifreeze in it, although not that cost effective it sure is fun.

Here are some pix of what I did this afternoon.
Made a bracket, painted it and the filter mounting base...installed onto rad support...(Scratches were in the support from the intercooler install about 4 years ago.)

cjetcat- No the filter wont fit with the oil by-pass. I just put the by-pass on this afternoon and had to remove the coolant filter. I may just mount it on the frame close to the front bumper.

Wow...I have had the coolant filter in for less than 600 miles. Took the truck for a drive last night...got home and grabbed the filter housing...it was cold, so I know it is plugged right up.

Gonna buy a new filter today, and cut the old one apart.

If you have the oem heater cut-off valve in the heater hose, move your coolant filter tee to the other side of the valve. That way you get circulation through the filter all the time, but the heater/ ac system still functions as it should.

I was gonna put the Tee there, but the turbo discharge pipe is too big, and I didn't want it to rub.
I'm from Canada....we pretty much use the heater everyday....I don't know what I was thinking when I had it off...

Easy fix. Instead of MOVING the tee, SWAP locations of the tee and the heater valve. Would you have room to do that?

I would like to try my hand at the DIY kit not faulting Dieselsite I am a tinker by nature. Where do you run the inlet from and where do you run the discharge to?

just got my kit from bob @ dieselsite last friday and hopefully will have time next week to drop the mounting bracket and the filter houseing off at the poweder coater along with some other stuff to get powder coated and once i get it back ill be ready for installation

If anyone is worried about the tight fit, you can order the E-series setup, it says E-series or frame mounted F-series.
