4wd Shift Maintenance and Mod!

Well after I blew my tranny a few weeks I tried to put my truck in 4wd to see if it would move. It wouldn't so I tried to put the t-case in neutral to tow it and low and behold it wouldn't go cause it wouldn't push down. As I was swapping transmissions I looked and in the last 3 years I have owned the truck one of the boots was melted from the previous owner and just now seized.

Well since the shifter is only available from Ford for around $250 as a unit and no parts sold separately I knew I wasn't going that route.

So I decided a bicycle inner tube would work well for a rubber boot and that two grease zerks needed to be installed to prevent any further failures to operate. So here is what it looks like. The only change i made to it was to put a 90 degree zerk in the mounting bolt pivot.

Did you drill and tap for the zerks? I haven't looked at mine yet it's just a PITA to shift. Good thing the trucks weight keeps me on road ATM.

Yes drilled and tapped. 1/4-28 threads for the zerks I had. I think those threads required a #3 drill bit.
