Messing with the nav...

Has anyone come up with or found any ways to 'hack' the nav system? I'd like to be able to use some of the features that are locked out because the vehicle is moving. So far Google hasn't led me anywhere...

Re: Messing with the nav...

Keep looking. I know the jeep folks came up with a gadget called the lock pick that allows you to use the radio as you like, I.e. playing dvds when in motion. There has to something simular for thr ford units which if I remember correctly is made by Pioneer.

Here is one option http://www.coastaletech.com/ford360lockpick.htm
if not then locate the VSS wire that goes into the back of the radio. cut the wire and wire in a switch. mount switch in the dash. when you want to mess with the nav unit turn the switch off, make changes, and then turn it back on.

Re: Messing with the nav...

The coastaltech link is almost promising except it says for "non hard drive equipped" nav systems. I'm pretty sure mine has a hard drive, I can save cd's to the truck....So does the one in the SD have a hard drive or is it like some sort of flash memory cache?

this is for the 09 right? according to coastal they are working on the one for the hard drive. you just might have to wait untill it comes out.

Re: Messing with the nav...

Hmm....I missed that one. I dunno, pretty pricey but it may be the only option. From what I've gotten to understand from the intraweb, it's based off a Microsoft platform that's pretty well developed...I'm surprised someone hasn't come up with a software based solution.

Thanks for the link though, I probably would've never found that.
