My truck is but a mere 7400-7600 lbs usually and the weight classes are upwards of 8k... sometimes as high as 8600.

Re: Hangin' Weight

I used a front receiver that bolts in behind the bumper. I made a bracket that slides in and pin it in place. The draw back is the end of the frame horns aren't very rigid. Over the years it twisted my bumper. Last year I used the same set up but added braces to the tow hooks.

Did you have a problem with the end of the frame turning downards?

Yeah I was going to do it like that since it looked easy but it means I have to get rid of my fog lights. I'd rather not.

Any pictures though? I recall seeing it at the buck that one time but it's been a lil while.

Could you give a better picture or try to explain how this is attached to the frame? Do you have any pics of those mounts before you stuck them in the tow hook location?

Re: Hangin' Weight

I'll have to get some pics when I take mine off. I removed the front bumper, then the tow hooks. Then I removed the front bolt that connects the front leaf spring shackle to the frame. I then drilled a hole opposite of the hole that bolt was in, so I could stick a grade 8 bolt all the way through the frame. I used some 2x2x1/4" square stock and drilled a hole through that. Stuck it in the frame, and stuck a 1/2" grade 8 bolt thru the frame and square tubing, and bolted it solid. Slid the front bumper back on, then I used a piece of 4x4x1/2" angle iron to connect the 2 stubs sticking through the bumper. It was good enough to hold close to 1100lbs...

Mine looks really similar to the one above, except I don't use receiver hitches.

Re: Hangin' Weight

Marty if you want to fab something I'll give you a hand. I think I have a stick of 2" reciever material at the shop.

What kind of weights do you have? I have one that I built for my truck that will hang 1600lbs of the old style JD weights that could be modified, becuase I don't need it anymore.

Mine did the same thing........twisted the bumper mounts. It was alright with 500lbs but when i decided to hang 1300lbs to the front it twisted it slightly.
