Wow!!! Back when i just got my license i was a member there i was on there as much as i am on here now. I hope Jim gets all that stuff sorted out. Therangerstation.com is a classic forum, everyone knows about it. FORD IS DEFFINATLY OUT DID THEMSELVES THIS TIME!!! GO FORD! lol
After reading all that I kind of agree with some of the stuff mentioned twards the end about the threat not being from ford itself. They may just be able to ignore it like the vw site did they posted the link to.
I think they might have. I know Ford either bought, or took the old address ford-truck.com and thats when the site became known as thedieselstop.com but I am not sure if it was a legal matter or if Ford just purchased the address.
Well it's not like it will do much good, but I clicked the link and gave them my two cents. Pissing off the most enthusiastic of your customers is not a smart move!
I dont think ford can do much of anything, they arent selling anything or making profits off the site or ford. But the internet can be a tangled web and i dont know much if anything about these civil laws. Hope they get it worked out over there and they dont come over here. Ford is defnitly making a tard move pissing off the people that basically promote their product... real smart
The lawyers are taking it upon themselves to file 'on behalf' of Ford, and giving Ford a portion of the $.
Ford didn't hire the lawyers, but they're more than willing to take the money handed to them.
The same thing happened to the site fordpartsnetwork.com. They had to change their name to fastpartsnetwork. Just a bunch of stupid lawyers trying to make some easy money.
i went to both Ford and International before getting our local club off the ground..International was difficult to open communication with, as we were getting organized in the midst of "the lawsuit" between the two...
Both entities have been very friendly and supportive to date..
i can't see much coming down on the enthusiasts sites...retailers using the name may be a different story..
I used to work for a dealership called Rick Ford Lease, the owners name was actually Rick Ford... well turns out you can't even use your own name anymore!
Nothing new here. Ford has always been like this. You can't however expect to be able to market Ford copyrighted material without a license. That's just common sense.
I sent Ford an email expressing my concerns about their aggressive stance with enthusiast sites. Today I received a response from them. I never mentioned Therangerstation.com in my correspondence but they sure did in their response. I assume they have received quite a number of messages about this.
Apparently their concern was unlicensed merchandise being sold on the site. They claim that their beef was never with the name of the site but rather the unlicensed merchandise. They even provided me with several links where you can request a licensing agreement.
Basically if it has the blue oval or any other Ford licensed likeness you need their approval to sell it. I'm all for grass roots efforts to help protect our hobby from the big evil empire, but I feel a little foolish this time given that there was more to the story than we have heard.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
