6.4 to a 7.3 or 6.0???

So my 6.4 was totaled and have decided to step down to a older truck. I was looking at buying a 7.3 or a 6.0. Why should i buy a 6.0 over a 7.3 and what all is required to really start building some power. What are some things to look out for?

Re: 6.4 to a 7.3 or 6.0???

A 7.3 is a pretty easy motor to build. I am personally a big fan of the 6.0L. I love the t
torque shift tranny in the 6.0L. It is way more reliable than the 7.3L tranny. Yu can't go wrong with either. If you really want to do research get on YouTube and watch the videos from powerstrokehelp.com. This guy is extremely knowledgeable about all powerstroke engines. Please please please if you do buy a 6.0l make sure you buy one with ALL mintaince records. Iwould hate for you to get stuck with someone's problem. I have a 7.3L excursion 6.0L F-250 and the new 6.7L (F-450) and I will tell you right now I would rather drive my 6.0L over any of the other trucks. I just love love love my 6.0L....

Re: 6.4 to a 7.3 or 6.0???

I would stick with a 6.4 but that is because I want one. I like my 7.3 and wouldnt mind a 6.0 but they are both old hat. And I wouldnt buy a 6.7 (although I would take one if it were given to me) mainly because of it not having an International under the hood.

Anyhow that is my opinion, good luck with yours and have fun shopping.

Re: 6.4 to a 7.3 or 6.0???

I have arp studs in mine along with the oem gaskets, DO NOT get the black onyx gaskets. I had those on my truck for 4000 miles before they blew. My mechanic installed them right but there just crap. The reason we use head studs is the fact that the factory bolt are weak and let the head lift off the block, which blows your head gaskets. The thing with the oil cooler is it can become clogged over on the coolent side, which lets your oli temp get really warm. Mine blew when my egr went bad, so I replaced the cooler and deleted the egr. Thats something else you will want to do is get rid of the egr, they cause havoc to your coolent and usually system and when they go out they take the oil cooler with it.

Re: 6.4 to a 7.3 or 6.0???

You cant go wrong with arp head studs. If youve got some money to spend you sould get a bullet proof diesel oil cooler. They totally relocate the stock one so that is actually uses air liquid insted of your coolent cooling the oil. Egr delete dosnt really matter to much as long as you get the replacement up pipe with the kit and not just a block off one. For exhaust I would get a 5in mbrp with no cat, you dont need an intake until you swap out for a bigger turbo, and I would get an sct tuner livewire or x3. Cusom tunes will make a big difference too, and there not that expensive.
