Toyo MT or Mickey Thompson BAJA ATZ??

I have been set on getting a set of Toyo MT's. I went out pricing them last week and had two places try to talk me in to a set of Mickey Thompson BAJA ATZ. I know they are different types of tires but I was wondering what everyones opinion is between these two tires. I really like the looks of both tires. I have read that guys are getting 40k+ on the Toyos and the owner of one of the shops I went to had an F250 with the BAJA ATZ's and he currently had 50k on them with a little life left. Just looking for opinions and personal experiances.

Re: Toyo MT or Mickey Thompson BAJA ATZ??

In theory, the ATZ should last longer, but as you have heard on here there are plenty of guys getting good miles out of the Toyo MT. If the price is the same (or close), then you need to look at the variables in the order that is most important to you:
-Ride Quality/Noise
-Load Capacity
-Looks
-Tread Life (how far apart are the two in real world longevity)
-Type of driving you do

Once you put those in the right order you should be able to narrow it down easier.

For what it's worth, I run Toyo MT on my wife's truck, and Mickey MTZ on my Excursion. The Toyo aren't quite as noisy, but I've been impressed with the ride quality of the MTZ and they seem to be wearing really well. They aren't overly noisy either. I run them up to 90MPH and they feel very stable, and there is no vibration out of them. One of the 4 required a good amount of weight to balance, but the other three were less than an ounce to balance. I was dead set on the Toyo originally, but got a steal of a deal on these MTZ's, and I will likely go back with MTZ when I need to replace them. I'll probably get north of 35,000 miles out of this set of MTZ's if I rotate them regularly. My wife does so little driving that treadwear isn't much of an issue, so I can't comment as much on the life of the Toyo. Her tires are more likely to get dry-rot than worn tread!

i loved my toyos. easily got 55k out of them and rotated after every oil change (~7500 miles). they were quiet, rode and drove well at all speeds (up to ~110). no experience with the mickey thompsons though.

Tires are a whores market. Making 10 bucks a tire is sometimes a lot. They are getting a better price on the Mickeys so if course they want to sell them to you. I would get no tire over a toyo m/t. They are the quietest mud tire and quiter then every a/t as well. They wear well, work well, and look great

Re: Toyo MT or Mickey Thompson BAJA ATZ??

Thanks for all the replies. I am still not 100% sure which one I want. The Toyo's are only $5 a tire cheaper than the M/T so the price isnt the deal breaker at this point. I also went to Discount Tire and they would not even give me a price on either of those two tires. Said the computer says they cant be run on an F250 so they want even look at them. All they had were Nitto Trail Grapplers in a 285/65/20.. What a joke.

Re: Toyo MT or Mickey Thompson BAJA ATZ??

I really like the ATZ and the MTZ on 2 of my trucks. For wear the MTZ had FAR surpassed my expectations. The ATZ, I only have 5k on on so I can't comment for wear.

Toyos are pretty much the best tire for your money I had them on mine for 2 yrs and 50000 miles and still had bout a 1/4 tread main thing is to keep them rotated and keep your air pressure up I personally run nitrogen in my tires
