Re: 203 t-stat
I dont' remember the exacts but I think its explained on dieselsite.com, I think the 203 is the optimum temp these 7.3's operate at.

Re: 203 t-stat
X4. Hotter heat in winter but I think it caused me a leak so I switched back.

Re: 203 t-stat
As a manufacturer, I appreciate your interest in our thermostat. I'll attach a link at the bottom of this post so that you can read the tons of info that I have on my site about why we make the 203* thermostat and that using it is a no brainer.
But, I really want offer my opinion as someone who uses the thermostat in my personal truck and the 3 other 7.3Ls truck that we have here. I refuse to run a thermostat dictated by the EPA because it is best for my tailpipe. I want to run what is best for my motor. Our engines were created with a 203* thermostat requirement - standard from OEM. Diesels run better hotter. That's a fact. There is no argument against it from anyone who understands how the diesel engine works. Any guy that hauls a lot of weight will tell you that his truck runs better when he's heavily loaded than it does when he's empty. Why? Because he is running hotter. He gets a better combustion, better power and cleaner burn. And he can feel it. The difference when you change to the hotter thermostat may be subtle - or it may be drastic - depending on how hard you work your truck on a daily basis. But, a thermostat is not a horsepower mod and you can't expect to feel what you would out of a chip. Allowing your engine to run at optimal temps can also equate into fuel mileage gains - even .25mpg lets you recover the cost of your thermostat quickly. I have lots of info on my website for anyone that wants to read more about why you need to be running this thermostat. It is thermostat. Nothing more, nothing less. They don't cause leaks. Like any thermostat they can leak when not installed correctly. I get one back per year or maybe every two years that fails in the open position. I replace it. Not bad out of thousands sold. I change my tstat every two years whether I need to or not. It not magical. It is a higher temp thermostat. I get TONS of email from people who notice a difference and to this day have never had to refund money on a thermostat. I've been selling these since 2002. Anyone who purchases from me should please feel free to call me when you have an issue with one of my products. I want happy customers and the best products I can make - so your input is important to me. 203 Thermostat Bob

Ran one for years. Finally got a scan gauge to monitor my oil temps and did not like how high they got. Had a failed water pump recently and switched back to a 195* and I'm definitely happier when those oil temps are now. It's great for coolant temps but the oil temps were what worried me. I'm sure others feel that you same way. The 203* was great during the winter tho
