The Puller Build

Ok guys, heres the deal. In my 02 F350 puller build, I realized that I am going to need to can these PMR's. I say so cause I was in my buddies truck when he shattered one and I will never allow this to happen to my engine.. God awful. So heres the question, I yanked the motor out and tore it down to see what exactly is going on in there, I gotta say for 150k it looks pretty good. I was going to get a set of Crowers for 2500 but found that I can get cryo treated forged rods for 500, which would allow me to spend the extra on boring and new pistons. My question is, being that this will be my pulling truck, are these reman cryo treated forged rods going to withstand the stress or am I really going to need to put billets in this damn thing. I have thought about doing an overhaul since the engines sitting in my garage now, but I dont need anymore things to do right now.

Thanks guys,
Vlad

Re: The Puller Build

If your tune will be dead on then you can make quite a bit of power with factory rods that have been properly prepped. How much are you looking to make?

Re: The Puller Build

Do it right the first time. Can you afford to do it twice? How about a dt360 swap??

Re: The Puller Build

ok guys, Ill keep you updated on the build. I plan on making 500 to 600 horse in the near future. I have a budget as of now around 7k, so this is what I plan on doing. I decided that I am just going to get a new set of rods and refresh the top end since the engines already out. However, I didnt even think about the dt360 swap. I will admit that I dont know much about that, just cummins swaps so if youd care to tell me a little more about the DT ide appreciate it. I am still gathering ideas and parts at this point, but I will take pictures as it gets underway. Right now, I have ripped out the A/C in order to go the route of an h2e twin setup with a hood stack, 238/80% hybrids, Banks techni-cooler, BTS Comp Tranny, all with a custom tune from the man Tony Wildman. Of course there will be some other odds and ends parts but I think you get the idea. Now this is for the 7.3 but like I said, I am interested in this dt360 swap. So we shall see.

thanks guys

Re: The Puller Build

Talk to Welcome to Carson Stauffer Diesel Service

He convinced me into doing one instead of other engine choices in a drag truck that is coming down the road sometime in the future. I do have an engine sitting upstairs in the shop though :) The engine is dimensionally similar to a 12v cummins, however the internals and pretty much the entire engine is beefier than a 12v cummins' parts. I have heard Hypermax has one around 3,000hp with stock connecting rods (!!!!).
