upfitter switches
So I'm curious to how to wire some lights up to these switches. I got some led glow truck bed lights off of ebay (48 led's). I want to run the the light wires to the cluster of wires under the hood. I had my truck running had all 4 switches on and hooked the lights up to one of the bare wires with no luck, and no reading on my volt meeter. Do I have to run a power wire to the cluster ? The lights on the switches turn on I just assumed they were already hot ?

Re: upfitter switches
I'm not sure what year you are working with, but this may help.

Re: upfitter switches
It looks like the wires under the hood are disconnected on both sides. The upfitter leads are inside under the dash. If you want power out under the hood, you will need to connect the upfitter power wire to the firewall pass-thru wire and then to your lights under the hood.
Here is the upfitter power locations: https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas...tml/Q117R1.pdf Here are the pass-thru wires: https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas...bb_pdf/349.pdf |

Yes, to hook up something inside that cab all you have to do is splice it into one of the wires under the dash. Since it is probably hooked up to a cigarette lighter plug all you have to do is cut the plug off and then strip off the vinyl coating to expose the 2 wires inside it. Most likely one red and one white. Splice the red one to the upfitter wire and the white one to a grounding bolt. There should be plenty of things already grounded underneath the dash so it shouldn't be too hard. Hope this helps. |
