Stock air filter back in and its running great at at 131K. I am running 100% stock fluids and filters...3 questions
1. Do I have to do the EGR delete?? How can I tell if already done?? 2. Do I have to do the studs/head gasket?? How can I tell if already done?? 3. Bought the blue sprink kit...can this harm a stock truck or safe to install to stock?? Thanks for all the help |

Re: 6.0 Stocker Question Studs/EGR Delete
Stock intake I've heard is very good so if u don't wanna spend coin on a good intake then good job there, first question....yes you need egr delete, you can tell by looking at the left side of the intake manifold to see if the egr cooler is still in place, if it is then your a no go on the delete unless by some chance whoever had it before you just welded the ends shut and put it back in, second question is yes/no, some 6.0s blow head gaskets running stock power and no aftermarket anyhtthng on it, if ur gonna run a programmer on the truck then wouldn't w a bad idea, after u do studs and a delete the 6.0 is about as good as it comes, and the blue spring kit is a nice upgrade for our fuel pressure, not very expensive and helps alot, will not harm your truck at all and takes all of 30 mins to install, good luck with everything

Re: 6.0 Stocker Question Studs/EGR Delete
you dont need and egr delete, you can buy an upgraded egr cooler so you truck dont throw codes. whn i get mine in a month or so, (a 6.0 that is) gonna go for upgraded egr from bullet proof diesel and the blue spring and an edge cts, then see if my oil cooler needs some attention by watching the eot and ect. but imo you dont NEED and egr delete but at least shoud buy an upgraded one.

If you have an 03 or 04 you won't throw codes but yea you can just do that if u want, get the bulletproof egr cooler or just do a delete either way

Re: 6.0 Stocker Question Studs/EGR Delete
My 2 cents worth: lol
The egr is always up for debate but; there are many guys ( some Ford Master Mechanics) that keep them because they want them and not just for smogging reasons. A bullet proof egr cooler is better than stock however the 2003 and early 2004 factory coolers rarely have a problem, you can tell if you have one on your truck if it's round. Compare with pics here on forum or on internationals powerstroke page. If you keep up on coolant changes it will extend the life of the egr cooler. Also cleaning egr every 10K miles or so is time well spent. IMO Head studs can be seen at the bottom of the cylinder head near the exhaust manifolds, you can see them if it has been done already. As for the blue spring mod for the fuel pressure regulator: by all means install that, it will raise your fuel pressure to around 60 psi which is what the injectors need to keep them from wearing out prematurely. Congrats on new truck just remember one word : maintenance/maintenance/maintenance

Re: 6.0 Stocker Question Studs/EGR Delete
Great Info from all...my stock EGR cooler is running great with no issues...as well as the rest of the stock 6.0....put in blue spring and hope it was not too late at 131,000 on vehicle...should it fire up right away or small hesitation is normal 2-5 seconds when plugs warmed up/key turned??....or should I allow more time after the glow plug light goes off on the dash - heard some do 30 seconds for safe start??? I am in the south normally 70F -100F degrees outside when I start depending on time of day

As soon as light goes out fire it up, if it's crazy cold you can wait a bit more
