Another week, another problem

So I took my boy on a camping trip this past weekend and had everything packed and camper hitched on Thursday night so when I got home Friday afternoon from work we could split.......We got into the truck and it took 5-6 cranks to turn over, after 4 I activated the glow plugs for about 10 secs.

Once started she ran and pulled fine. The next day we took a short trip and I again hit the GPs and it sounded a bit weak in start up but it fired after a longer crank than normal. Ditto for the next day when we left.

If I get time today I'm going to check the oil level in the HPOP. One of batteries was new last fall maybe its time to replace the other, also I am due for an oil change.....didnt have time to do before our trip

So if all this checks out what should I check next? I only have 138k on the clock, wouldnt think injectors yet.

Re: Another week, another problem

weak battery(ies)=weak starts......that's the first place to look for weak start issues..it take a lot of cranking amps to spin the motor and supply power to the injectors.....at the same time.

I was going to start with a battery and an oil change and go from there.

The batteries dont get much 'charge' time since I dont drive too much....usually I go 5 miles up the road a few times a week for baseball or soccer practice.

Re: Another week, another problem

My truck had been starting weaker than normal a few days ago. So I did some searching on here and some people said it was their starter/batteries/battery cables....well to be honest I didn't do much about it. Three days later I went to start my truck and it was making a horrible rattling sound under the truck....first thing came to mind was torque converter related! So I slipped under there and noticed the starter solenoid has just...hanging there lol so I pulled the the whole thing off, replaced it and now my truck starts up better than ever!

Exact same thing.. Crappy starting for a few days and then I had the presence of mind to pull into the parts store and shut it off. tried to start it again and nothing. Looked underneath and the starter was in several dangling pieces. 20 minutes and $200.00 later back on the road.

..adds a whole new meaning to "Made in China"
