Big VGT's?
I'm looking at a new turbo and injectors for my 06. I've already got studs, EGR delete, new oem head gaskets, replaced the up pipes with bellowed up-pipes and replaced the oil cooler. I am running out of the box tunes on an SCT X3. I'm looking into turbo/injector combo's and am curious about the large VGT turbos. Does anyone have a video of a truck with a large VGT and something like 190's or 205's? Can I make 600 with any VGT turbo?

Re: Big VGT's?
Here is a video of my truck making over 600hp on PHP's dyno with a Mad Turbo Werks Stage 3 Prototype turbo and 190/100 injectors.
I have about 3k miles on my truck so far with this turbo and I have to say that I really like it. In the video, I did not have a tune written specifically for the turbo and it was slightly defueled. I'm gonna be hopping onto another dyno here in a month or so for some live tuning so we'll see what can get out of her. The bottom line though is, I recommend looking into something like this. This turbo in particular will produce 44+psi of boost and not surge.

Re: Big VGT's?
I make around 580 at the wheels according to my track times with an RCD 68mm and 190's. There are a few guys making well north of 600 (640+) with 205's and this same turbo as well.

Re: Big VGT's?
I'm a turbo guy so I love air over fuel. But yes 190/100 can hit over 600rwhp, and with live tuning which is coming should hit 650rwhp with 190/100.
The real deal is that 205 injectors have the fuel ports plugged so the idle is a little choppy, like a big cam idle. 190/75, 190/100 have a nice smooth idle alot like stock, that may be something to consider, also once you hit the 205 you are pushing the HPOP at the limit and if it's weak won't run right need to upgrade that too. I have some plans in near future to hit number never seen before with 175/75, fuel only and back them up with track times. I'm a big lover of the vgt turbos and love the heck out of them. There is rumor about a very large vgt turbo coming out that measures 72mm/94mm .58 a/r housing that will be completely insane, and I beleive the biggest vgt turbo built for the 6.0powerstroke, if I'm wrong about size let me know, if there are any bigger.

Re: Big VGT's?
Yes this turbo IS streetable. About 1/4 throttle gets you up to 75 mph to enter the hwy coming off an on ramp. Boost is about 11-13psi, EGTs are at about 1050F at this level, and man it is just a nice feeling.
Cruising EGTs are about 770F on flat ground at 70-75mph in 100+F outside heat. The only thing is, you have to have your tranny shifting set up so it doesnt shift into OD below 55 mph. Because if you are in OD at 45-50 mph, the rpms are just too low to get the turbo to spool up good. It will build 2-3psi of boost but it will smoke like a train and EGTs are just too high but if the tranny is in 5th gear, everything is just fine and the turbo spools up VERY quick. Hope this helps. |

Re: Big VGT's?
Yea that's great information. I sold my 2000 7.3 and bought this 06 so in not real familiar with the 5r110s. Do I just need to talk to my tuner to get the tranny were I want it or is that going to be something separate?

Re: Big VGT's?
Just installed a Mad stage 2. A couple of things I noticed with the quick little trip I took. Not as much smoke on tip in and take off. Looks like my EGts are down at least a 150 degrees while cruising. The only thing changed was the turbo, everything else is the same. Hopefully some live tuning will clean this thing up the rest of the way.

Re: Big VGT's?
I'm not familiar with the Mad stage II. What kind of power is a turbo like that making? Are you running aftermarket injectors with it?
