Question EBPV question

Hey everyone, my dad has a 7.3 powerstroke in his farm truck, its a early 99 but the motor has been switched out and has a 2002 7.3 in it. The EBPV keeps activating even tho it is warm out and while driving now so we just unplugged it, would it be that the solenoid is bad, dad said he had the solenoid replaced but it still didn't fix the problem, what sensor is involved to tell the EBPV that its warm enough so it won't activate? temp sensor? I know if there is enough back pressure or you put it in drive the EBPV should stay open

Thanks

Re: EBPV question

The ebp tube is prolly clogged, most of us just either unplug it or delete it.

I thought the tube and sensor was a must have for stock and many tuners....I also thought it was concluded that the ebp sensor didn't have much / anything to do with the ebpv.

I believe the ebpv is controlled by the ecm based upon the signal it is receiving from various sensors. I'd scan the truck while running to see if the ecm is seeing the engine come up to temp. That is if you want to keep the ebpv. Many delete them or just leave them unplugged.

Re: EBPV question

If it's working with it unplugged, just leave it unplugged. I have ran mine deleted for a while now, no ill effects.

It has been unplugged for a while now, think dad wants it working again since it gets cold up here in Iowa, thing is it works when its cold but the ebpv don't stop when it gets warm or while driving like its supposed to

Re: EBPV question

You can try cleaning the EBV sensor, but it probably won't help. Otherwise chances are the solenoid in the pedestal is bad...and they aren't cheap.

It's not entirely warm in Maine in the winter, either. When it's really cold (below 0*F) I just let it idle for 5 min or so, then drive it slowly and keep the rpms below 2,000 until the oil is up to temp. With synthetic oil and good batteries/GPs, I have had cold starts as low as -25*F and no issues.

JMHO.

If it opens and closes I highly doubt the solenoid is bad.--
