wrench light

Hi All, I recently bought a 06 king ranch, had it about a month and the egr cooler took a crap. I had that replaced by Ford, with a bullitproof one. I was told that the oiler cooler was checked and it was within the parameter to work correctly. About 2 months after that i purchased a 30 foot travel trailer and two out of the three times towing it, the wrench light has come on. I am going in this thursday to have the codes pulled. I am just looking for an information from others with the same problem.
It did not go in to limp mode and turbo gauge "factory one" is running around 23 uphill, while towing.

thanks in advance, Joel

Joel
Need to get a good set of gauges to tell the health of the motor something like the Edge CTS, CS or even the Scangauge II harder to install but all are plug and play. With the Scangauge you will need to add a pyro gauge a must if you pull. With the CTS I'm running 11 different things at one time, 8 on the CTS, boost stock, fuel on the column, volts from a power port. The main reason the egr cooler went out is the oil cooler plugged from casting sand and silicate drop out from the Ford Gold coolant They should of changed the oil cooler.

Re: wrench light

I would have paid for the oil cooler kit out of pocket while they were in there doing the EGR cooler but that ship has sailed

but it's all speculation on what your problem is until the codes are pulled ,,

one thing I would check or clean is the EGR valve

and if you want to clear the codes disconnect the batteries .. but it is good to read them first (of course)

Re: wrench light

cool do a search on how to clean it or post back and ask ,, you don't want cleaner in any port above the valve

I set mine in a glass cup filled with solvent

Re: wrench light

I wet to the shop, and had my friend check the codes, and nothing. He has a nice Matco setup, so i would think that would be able to retreive all the codes. hmmm what next?

Re: wrench light

Maybe it has the newest strategy on it (flashed by ford) where the coolant and oil temps get out of tolerance it throws the wrench light.

Re: wrench light

Several things can cause the wrench light - such as oil cooler efficiency, APP performance, turbo overboost, and battery voltage. Your issue sounds like an oil cooler issue. Find out the actual EOT and ECT values.

A wrench light will throw a code, sounds like the Matco won't read all of the Ford codes.
