Optimizing fuel mileage from stock 7.3

My fuel bill is starting to get out of hand. (at least to the point where i dont like it) So I wanted to get input on what mods would help the most on fuel mileage in a 7.3l

And about what kind of changes in mileage would I be expecting. ( just highway driving)

Trying to outweight the fuel bill to purchasing another vehicle and letting the powerstroke sit, but I don't want to let it sit lol

Thanks for the input guys!

Re: Optimizing fuel mileage from stock 7.3

Whether it's stock or not your right foot is your best friend. No mods will increase milage. Need more info, tire size, gears, etc. Lift? All these can contribute to poor fuel economy. Just put an egg under the go pedal and you'll get the best you can.

Only time mine leaves the driveway is if I'm going camping or need to haul something. Can't justify the fuel cost with a compact that gets 30 mpg sitting next to the truck. I miss driving it though. Another plus is keeping the milage down on the odometer.

Re: Optimizing fuel mileage from stock 7.3

Stock, stock, stock besides the tires. I believe I have a 325/65/16 mud tires. Unsure of gear ratio it is a 4x4.

It is that I have always heard that exhaust, programmers, intakes, cold air, ECt made a difference i'n fuel mileage. Granted they have duramaxesand cummins one has a powerstroke but it is a 08 so big difference. So I thought that if there was anything that would help me directly with the 7.3.

Performance is always nice, but wanted to look for mileage mostly. Looks like I may he going car shopping which I don't like cause I always end up with a v8 sport car lol.

Re: Optimizing fuel mileage from stock 7.3

There is no question my PHP 80DD setting has produced my best mileage numbers. Granted, I have a 6spd and know how to breath on the pedal and keep it at 70-72 on the highway. At those speeds, I am getting a solid 19mpg on the highway.

With a chip exhaust and intake my mileage went up by about a third. I enjoy my 22 mpg with 4.10s.

Re: Optimizing fuel mileage from stock 7.3

Run used transmission fluid, do about 50/50 mix, 7.3s love it, ive been doing mine like that for months no problems, cleans the innerds too haha, gets you more power, lower exhaust temp, about 3-4 mpg increase atleast thats wht i hand calculated,

some mods to help, my dual exhaust helped, AFE stage 2 intake, superchips programmer, all gave beter mpg, started out at like 12-13, now i and 19-22

Re: Optimizing fuel mileage from stock 7.3

if your fuel mileage has recently dropped off you are probably in need of a high pressure pump. they start loosing pressure way before theyll set the check engine light. terminator makes a good pump the t500 for a good price.

"up by 1/3", and 22mpg from a dually w 4.10s sounds a little high to me... but I dunno......

Is this hand calculated?

Chips and exhausts never gained me that kind of MPG's on any of the four 7.3's Ive had.....

Re: Optimizing fuel mileage from stock 7.3

Did on mine. I don't know why but I do see that mileage. I don't drive 75 on the highway and ease off the line from lights. Hand calculated yes. But it also using Sumer fuel. With 2stroke oil in it. And synthetic oil changes every 3k mi. When I did the chip exh and intake it was a completely different truck all together. Mabye it's just a freak truck? Also this is highway mileage.
