Re: real world cost of a Cummins conversion?
To the op i would do what you want, say fu#* what everyone else says. Its your truck, your the one that has to drive it every day. So build what you want and enjoy it have fun. I have had alot of building my Fummins and all in all its not to expenseive. I got lucky and picked up an entire dodge truck for like 500 bucks. But i will be installing my engine this weekend and im only up to like 6 or 700 bucks with parts and gaskets. Its not hard either my buddy and ia re 20 years old and we have done all this by ourselves. So the best of luck to ya and just do what makes you happy.

![]() These have worked well for 6 years, though I wouldn't use this type of isolator again. Its from an early 12V. I made these myself very quickly and inexpensively.

I recommend getting a complete engine. Fan, wiring harness, alternator, ECM, turbo, power steering pump, water pump, etc. Everything, fan to flywheel, pan to valve cover. You might not use all of it, but its easier to sell stuff than to try to buy what is missing. |

Re: real world cost of a Cummins conversion?
I bought a complete donor truck used the motor, trans, rear axle and a bunch of miscellaneous parts. I parted out what I didn't need and what I kept cost me under $1000.

Sure, you'll get a 12v or maybe a 24v and be able to do that. No way with a common rail tho. |

You forgot the rattle can paint job ! Scrap steel sells for 50 cents a pound or so... 10 pounds is $5. Just saying.
