Any Loggers out there

Well I think its time to do some logging on my land. The last time it was logged was in 1983 and the outfit destroyed alot of my grandparents farm. I know there is some companies out there that specialize in land programs. Now Im no expert but I was thinking about just doing most of it myself. Im off work until march so I was thinking of if I can get about five trees a week cut and limbed and just sit on them until Im all done then have someone come and just haul them to the mill. I plan on opening the farm back up and getting a few head of cattle so I thought that this would be a nice little winter project for me. I have access to a 2003 CATD3 so It would almost be perfect I thought. Those of you that work in the industry or been in my situation please give your input.

Get a forester to mark them first for pulp, veneer, or specialty, etc. It will greatly help out and also make life easier for you. It is best to have a smaller 4wd tractor or skidder.

Keep in mind the lumber market sucks right now. We have 3 loads of pine logs that would generally go for lumber is gonna go for pulp cause the lumber market is that bad. You will need to find a broker to sell to the big mills if you sell to small saw mills you will have a lot of pulp left to get rid of. Physically it is very do able. Just remeber it takes alot more wood to make a load than you might think. If you have any more questions feel free. Wood prices vary in different parts of the country.

Dont know about your area but here if the timber buyers don't know/trust you and or don't know where the timber came from you might as well make firewood. Have buyers come look at the lot first while the timber is still standing.
