Re: best injectors for IDI performance?

That's a loaded question that has been controversial on other forums. The thing is it may be that NMB2 and Racin and some of these guys here are breaking new ground with more power in the IDI engine but up until now the conventional wisdom has been that most people can't or won't build one that can sustain much over 200 HP, as a result there aren't a bunch of choices like with your Powerstrokes and Cummins. As far as I know the only really reasonably priced ones are Stage 1s from Ken at DPS. They have a bad rap on another forum but from what I've seen it's undeserved, Ken wants $36 each plus acceptable cores or about $64 each to buy them outright. Mel Agne is working with a builder to develop "Moose Misters" and the people that have bought from him are very loyal to him, the only drawback is they are PSD performance injector price without a comparable return on investment powerwise. They have the advantage of a nice spray pattern, but some very smart people like Ken and NMB2 think the spray pattern is not so important in an IDI like it would be in a DI engine since we have the precup and piston cutouts to help atomize the fuel. You at least need a turbo to even think about either of these performance parts and in my opinion a really hot pump would help even more with the fueling and timing curves shifted so that your pump doesn't retard the timing as early as a stock pump and keeps the engine pulling right to the redline. Best of all worlds is you'd have a really nice pump and better injectors and you'd at least have a turbo kit with all the restrictions removed and an intercooler or water injection. Keep your expectations reasonable and you should be thrilled with a better than stock fuel system on any turbo and especially turbo +intercooled truck.

Re: best injectors for IDI performance?

I have Dps injectors that are pushed by a Moose pump on my truck and it seems to make pretty decent power with minimal smoke. I like them quite a bit. Also Moose Misters are more expensive like was said before but I do know that Mel has his guy working on some that are supposed to be cheaper after they are done but that will be some time in the near future.

Is your engine studded yet? I don't think I'd go Moose or DPS before I got that done with that much boost already. It may hold, it may not, but it is considered risky to boost more than 12 psi on 6.9 headbolts consistently.

Re: best injectors for IDI performance?

Granted I have a 7.3 which has bigger bolts but mine has done pretty well with 15psi and the extra fuel. I'm not sure what boost is safe on a 6.9 compared to a 7.3 though cus its debateable.

88 you're right, I'm not saying that the 6.9 bolts won't take it, if he's used to the PSD 15 doesn't seem like a lot, I just wanted to warn him that many would say he's playing with fire, other people like 82F100SWB have run a lot of boost on stock bolts. I have boosted 12 psi with no incidents so far.
