Re: duramax idk why but o well

I wouldn't touch a lb7 with a ten foot pole. I believe those were the first few years and they have serious injector issues. All you have to do is go to one of their forums and you will see many injector posts. The problem is there is no real fix and you are best to replace all of them. They last about 80-120k miles and cost about $2k for the set. The install is worse than it is on the 7.3.

Re: duramax idk why but o well

Stay away from the 01-04.5 LB7s as stated tons of injector issues...Pump rub

The 04.5-05 LLYs are great motors...a few had overheating issues...I put 50k on my old LLY in two years and never had any issues....pump rub

06-07 LBZs are what most people will say to go with....6 speed instead of 5 speed....weak pistons (if he's gonna tune it), strong rods (for a Duramax)

07.5-up are LMM/LML and they're mostly similar in motor setup....pretty much a LBZ with DPF ####...

In the end they're good trucks just the IFS is absolute crap and the only reason I have a Ford is because I had so much damn trouble out of the front suspension on my old LLY

Make your decision if you need help ask and I can help....

Re: duramax idk why but o well

I'd rather have an lb7 over an lly. Llys are known for under powered and over heating issues. Lb7 has injector issues and tons of power. I personally would rather replace injectors every couple years over motor rebuild myself but I know alot
Of guys like the lly it all comes down to personal preference

Re: duramax idk why but o well

I'd rather throw an EFILive tune on an LLY and never worry about injector issues but that's just me I guess...besides my CCLB 4x4 LLY ran 12.73 @106.7mph in the quarter with a modded stock turbo (68mm Cheetah), lift pump, trans, intake and tunes

Re: duramax idk why but o well

I had an 01 that i put 200k on with no issues. Just had a tuner on it & ran great. only problem was power steering pump & a transfer case seal.

Re: duramax idk why but o well

my buddies got a 05 or 06(cant rember exact year), had 6'' lift on 37s with a tune and towed often, drove the crap out of it (burnouts, doughnuts etc) and it was a tank, only thing was the allison started to slip after a few yrs of abuse.....now its got 9'' lift on 41s with aftermarket turbo/injectors, and a built tranny, needless to say the thing roast the 41s like nothing, and has never had any issues except for the tranny when it was bone stock expect for a tune....i was looking for a duramax b4 i got my 7.3 but none were done how i wanted them to be except for a extra cab but i really wanted the 4 door so i settled for the good ol 7.3
