How about the cross border trade agreement that was signed???
Did you all hear about it? It was finally signed for Mexico to allow the cross border trucking like we have with Canada. I have no problem with Canadian drivers coming down here because the companies from up there are like we are down here with newer reliable up kept equipment and most know english. Now with the government now allowing Mexican drivers to come north up into the US I'm pretty sure that the nations accident rate for commercial vehicles will go up and so will traffic fatalities seeing as there trucks are not going to be kept up like most.
I see it like this, a wave of container haulers out of Chicago coming north with trucks that loose a tire every 10 miles or have a fairing come loose on there old broke a$$ FLD120. Not good my friends not good.

Re: How about the cross border trade agreement that was signed???
I have to agree with the reference to Canadian drivers, for the most part. Now the "New Canadians"? No useful comment.
I'm lucky that where I drive anymore, there aren't that many freighthaulers around, so the guys from down yonder may not ever show up here. I hope. I saw waayyy too many of their antics in Laredo and El Paso to put up with it up here. One can only hope the DOT gets them one way or another, in other words, comply, or get the hell out! From what I've seen, safety is no priority with these guys.

Re: How about the cross border trade agreement that was signed???
The boarder has been open to Mexico trucks for some yrs now, but they were restricted to a ~25-30 mile radias of the boarder. By the way the crow flies I live ~10 miles from one here in New Mexico just outside El Paso Texas, I know that the local DOT has "tried" to keep a close eye on them, makeing sure that they meet all rules / regulations that US trucks must meet, but there are a few that fall thru the cracks. I am more worried about what this will do to US based trucking companies, if these individuals will come in and undercut them......I do know that alot of local business refuse to work with them, several of the local truck stops even refuse to sell fuel to them, got away with it by saying they needed a U.S. registered truck, U.S. DOT numbers, U.S. drivers lic. on file etc. I for one hope it fails and pull the plug on them.....

Re: How about the cross border trade agreement that was signed???
Ive seen troopers make checkpoints down here.. They usually go after the mexican truckers, since there trucks always look bitten up.. The way they drive, man it pisses me off. They wana drive the same way they drive in their country.
