Re: Fuel pump ideas?
I'm one of the guys who ordered a Bosch -044 from ExpressFuelPumps (Walbro) and didn't get anything nor did they answer the phone. I had ordered online and fortunately paid through PayPal who almost instantly got a refund as soon as I entered the greivance process through PayPal.
JRacing offers the Bosch -044 through either ebay or their ebay store for $205. They also have fittings that go from the metric to various AN sized hoses (-6,-8 and -10 as I recall. Their feedback is good too.

Re: Fuel pump ideas?
The pump is on its way, so I need to figure out how to run this pump. Is it safe to use the stock wiring on it? Or should I use the stock wiring to trigger a relay, with wires running directly from the battery?

Re: Fuel pump ideas?
WOW, how long before your new pump arrives? Wish I still had a spare truck to loan you but I sold it!

Re: Fuel pump ideas?
I have to look and see what the stock fuse is. The walbro pump I ordered calls for a 20amp fuse.

Re: Fuel pump ideas?
The stock wiring is pretty tiny, probably capable, but not optimal. John, if it were me (well I've already done this
), I would use the stock wiring to trigger a relay and run some 12 GA or bigger wire directly from the battery. Didn't LarryM do some testing with stock wiring vs. larger wiring and find that with the bigger wire the pump actualy sees more voltage and flows more? I'll see if I can find that post.

Re: Fuel pump ideas?
That would be good to see. The stock fuse is a 20A fuse. That is what my new pump says to use. I was going to cut the factory connectors off and solder new longer wires on to reach the new pump.
J, see of you can find that post my Larry. I may need to do something different. I am off to the land of larrys little secrets.... |

Re: Fuel pump ideas?
It's not the size of the fuse that bothers me...it's the size of the wire. I think they only run 16 GA wire for the stock pump. It will work ok, but IMO, not optimal. Bigger wire is always capable of more amperage.
Found the post I was thinking of, but it's not exactly what I thought, but still very useful. It's comparing pumps at different voltages, and I think that the bigger wire is capable of more voltage. Below is the info, from this thread: http://www.powerstrokenation.com/for...ht=pump&page=2 Quote:

Jon what I did with my black Aero was I used the stock wiring. The rings are a tad small (actually IIRC only one is to small) but I took a small drill bit and bored it out a little. I've been running it like that for a little over 10,000mi and haven't had any problems. As for the fuel line I called Dennis at ITP and bought his Hi-Porformance fuel kit minus the pump he used to use which is 5/8's pickup to #10 hose to pump and a #6 hose to the fuel bowl. It also had the mounting plate for it that fits the stock pump's holes. |

Re: Fuel pump ideas?
My new pump should be here wednesday. I have most of the stuff to run a 5/8's pickup from the tank to the pump. Im going to run the relay after seeing those results. Im not looking forward to dropping my tank, its 3/4 filled now lol. Im going to have to find some buckets to get some of the fuel out first.
What about a post pump filter or should I be fine without one? |
