Load ratings- I need help!

I am shopping for new tires. I am upgrading from a 16.5 rim to a 17x9" Raceline Raptor.

Here is my huge problem. I have done TONS of research on the load ratings and have come to this understanding.

Load ratings:

C- 6 ply
D- 8 ply
E- 10 ply sidewalls

My problem is that every tire that I find in a 40" tire (the size I want), every single tire is a C load rating, which, in my research, everyone says that is unacceptable to put on a truck as big as mine (95 Ford F350 Crew cab long bed Diesel)

So what do I do? Are these C rated tires okay because of the bigger tire size? I haven't found an E rated tire yet in a 40" tire size.

If I have to stay at a 38" tire to have an E rated tire I would be okay with that, but I want to go to a 40" tire.

Also it has to be a radial with good reviews regarding tread wear and good ride.

Any recommendations or help?

Do you tow with your truck or is it more street driven with towing say a boat or car trailer on occasion? If it is the latter then you will be fine with the 40" tires in a C rating. If you tow heavy then I don't recommend it as you could overheat the tires due to too much load on them causing them to fail.

Re: Load ratings- I need help!

I don't tow much at all, and it is mainly street driven. However, I wanted to be able to tow if and when I wanted to.

Also I thought a C rated tire would wear faster than an E rated tire?

Re: Load ratings- I need help!

Load and compound rating are two different ratings.

Re: Load ratings- I need help!

Look at the actual weight ratings of the tires you're interested in instead of the C,D,E thing. Sometimes an eight ply tire will have a higher weight rating than a ten ply tire, depending on the materials it's made of.

I wouldn't be concerned with it if you're not towing.

Re: Load ratings- I need help!

those c rated tires are no were near strong enough for your truck, regardless if you tow or not.
