They just get worn out over time...,my truck used to be in a West texas oil field, and was rode hard. The body has almost 300k,, motor almost 200k.. And idk in all cases if you can see a gap

ghohouston, great stuff. I will have another look for a gap in th leafs.

About my truck? I will do my best here. 2005 F350 with approx. 140,000 miles. Purchased it second hand over the summer last year. Originally, it was from the interior, around the Cranbrook area which is close to the rocky mountains (I live in British Columbia). It was owned my an old man who would use it to tow and to do some work on his ranch (if my memory serves me correctly.)

Having a look underneath the vehicle, I get the idea that it was put through it's paces. The rear shocks needed to be replaced according to the inspection my local ford dealer gave to my truck. The shocks (front and back) that were on the vehicle when I took posession were not even stock so they were replaced in the past at some point. They had rust on them, and upon removal, one of them wouldn't even extend to their intended length.

The frame rails have rust on them too along with much of the chassis but it's only on the surface; the product of heavy winters and road salts of the interior no doubt. The engine block has some surface rust too and there is a noticable amount of sand underneath the truck as well. A friend of mine will be re-undercoasting my truck in the near future.

Aside from that, there was green coolant when I got it as well as a Pennzoil oil filter. There were also zip ties on the fuel line which lead to the fuel bowl. Egr cooler looked pretty clean upon removal. On start up, there is some blue smoke and the stock head gaskets don't leak one ounce. When I took out the HPOP out to install the STC fitting, I noticed uniform etchings on the lobes (I think that's what they're called) of the camshafts; don't know if this is normal.

Jestersv, can you explain how to check my ball joins one more time? Didn't quite understand your procedure there...

Thanks, hopefully didn't put anyone to sleep, lol

raise wheel off ground enough to put a prybay under tire and lift straight up that will load and unload balljoint as you lift have someone watch balljoints and or feel to see if they move they should not move up or down or in out they should only rotate as tire turns. Go to youtube and search how to check balljoints its there several of them....

mine was doing the same thing for awhile but on the passenger side, found out the rubber was missing out of the shock mount and they were replaced 1 1/2 years ago, but read you did shocks last year, maybe worth taking a look at?

Might be worth a shot. I intend to reaplace them in due time anyway seeing how the rears were screwed.

Re: Weird rattle from front end when going over bumps?

Sway Bars links!!! I replace mine a few times a year and thats how I know that it's time. I bought the lifetime warranty ones from O' Reilly's. I put 15K + on my ruck each month so I wear them out fast. Monroe Reflex shocks every 20-30 for free also. : -)

Oh, I paid $14 and $22 for sway bar end links and $200 for the Monroe Reflex shocks VIA A COMMERCIAL ACCOUNT.Your 05' may be slighty differentwith the Different front end. Shocks should be about the same.
