Re: got a deal on 97 f450 ?

A new set of glow plugs(Motorcraft Beru ZD-11), check the GPR, new UVCH harnesses and possibly pigtails/valve cover gaskets, and you should be good to go. Do not use any other brand glow plug. They are known to swell the tips and you won't be able to get them out later when they need changing again.

Re: got a deal on 97 f450 ?

pulled left valve cover to find one cylinder miss, turned out to be # 6 traded # 6 injector with # 7 and miss went to # 7 , guess I better find a injector think it will be pretty smooth when I get another injector in o rings seals seem pretty hard , think I will get a set of those too. takes some time but still gaining,.

Also, You can save a BUNDLE by using s WESTERN plow solenoid in place of the OEM one and it is BETTER #56131K And they are $12 vs 75-100 for a ford one
I gotta throw in the motorcrafts that I got to replace the autolites someone put in there. Idk if I have the factory relay but I'll grab a plow relay next time I get a chance

Re: got a deal on 97 f450 ?

up date put in 4 used supposed to be good injectors
checked compression on same four 375 450 550 600
light color vapor kept coming out of 2 center cylinders when cranking to check the compression, fired it up and # 1 is the only cyl that is doing much pulled the wires off all of them and the next three back seem to be almost a dead miss.used ford injector o rings takes about 10 seconds of cranking to start it, thinking maybe o ring leak and it is bleeding down , didnt do that before I pulled it down just had a miss on one cyl I was trying to cure . how long would it take to bleed the air out of the system?
I have ran it about 10 minutes. mostly concerned about vapor coming out of glow plug holes with them out.

You will have some vapor coming out of the cylinders. It is normal depending on how much vapor you are talking about. You will need to run the truck for about 100 miles to really get all the air out of the system.

Re: got a deal on 97 f450 ?

pretty good cloud , concerned because its missing on those three cyl dont have it liscensed yet so will have trouble putting miles on it. starts after about 5 sec of cranking at 56 deg. here this morning. shut it off and let it set 20 min and it cranks about 4 sec and starts still missing on 3 left back cyl[ pulling the wires of they do a little but very little] have a cummins so I guess Im pretty critical, work in progress I guess,

Re: got a deal on 97 f450 ?

compression on low cyl. came up to 525 .
truck is running and starting much better.
still barely gets along until it warms up about a quarter of the way on the temp gauge and then does pretty well, havent figured this out yet .
