Re: 203 t-stat
im just curious does this change the water temp gauge at all?(stock gauge)
also im with CSIPSD i wouldnt want to make any more heat than i have to, i dont care how great your diesel runs hot, i can promise you that my diesel with stock stat runs just as great if not better on the absolute coldest days of the year. they love cold air, just like a campfire or woodstove, they burn better with cold air. so why make more heat to warm my cold air? not trying to dis your product, i hope you sell another million of them and i mean that. but i as well as some others just do not see the need to change a good thing, and maybe your right who am i to say otherwise, but if it was meant to be hotter it would be hotter though the newer trucks are set to run hotter temps but then again they arent the tried and true 7.3 powerstroke...

Re: 203 t-stat
Bob,
I can hear the difference in the motor. When the oil gets to those temps I can feel performance drop off. I can hear it in the turbo. I can see it in the exhaust. I like everyone of your products, this is one I can not put my own thoughts on.

Cold air = dense air, which means more mass. Cold air and a hot engine and you have the best burn. Your hot cylinder does not heat up your cold air charge. Use your firewood as an example. The hotter the fire, the cleaner the burn. Diesel fuel is no different. Bob

Ever think that maybe your injection timing is a bit too advanced and as the combustion timing might complete sooner with a hotter temp, you might have passed a point that your engine likes or at least it sounds different? Bob |

Like I've said many times. It WAS hotter and the EPA forced a change. The 94-95 7.3L Powerstrokes ran an OEM 203. Bob |

Re: 203 t-stat
we have a lot of moisture in this part of the county..i kind of like the oil at 235* to boil out any moisture that collects..water dont boil at 200*.. i have also noticed that alot of car's now a day run almost 210* water temps..

Re: 203 t-stat
here's one for ya. I have all the respect and faith in Bob's products. But living in Southern Az I have a 180* tstat. In summer first thing in the morning my CTS shows eot @ about 100* before cranking and within a mile or two it's @ 207*. Towing a 13K toyhauler in 100* temps on 6/7% pulls my eot will see 240* & ect about 220+*. And like Bob said when it's working hard on those pulls @ those temps it feels stronger than running around town. I run a syn oil so I'm not concerned with the temps I see. I think the climate you are in will dictate what works best for you.

as for the first question..the dash gauge is not telling you much of anything....its cold..its just right or its hot...i forget how many temps in between the gauge doesnt tell you..but its quite a bit..ever notice when a car over heats the gauge is the last to tell you?? put a macanicle gauge on your truck and you will see what i mean.. |
