powermax no whistle at idle?

Off my buddy. I think he bought it on ebay...he never installed it and sold it to me. It was still in the box. Now the turbo whistles like crazy when accelerating. But not at idle or parked. Could the vanes not be closing all the way at idle? The tune did make it whistle louder when rolling to a stop but as soon as i stop it goes back to the regular vacuum sound.

Its the old style PM I believe. Can you get me a picture looking at the turbo with the intake off?

in the post reply box there will be a paper clip near the top. click on that to upload attachments. another screen will load, from there you can select the image from you computer. then just click up load. then the pic will show up in your post.

Old style please explain this one. I'm gonna say your flash or stragety is probably different affecting I really doubt there's a difference. What does taking a picture of the intake side have anything to do with the whistle ??? Hmmm your whistle comes from the turbine side of the turbo not the compressor side. Unless the whistle magicly passes through the intercooler, into the motor, thru combustion, and out the heads. Really doubt it.

Well rescue. I have what i call old style. Sounds exactly the way he is describing. Mine has a silencer ring on it. Sounds the same no matter what tune is on it.. My uncle has exact same turbo but a brand new one. No ring and whistles like crazy. I told him to take a pic for me to verify what his looks like compared to mine.

The silencer ring is milled out of it.

exhaust whistle doesnt come from the compressor, its from the turbine wheel. Irrelevant.

Its in the tuning, the newwer flashes have more desirable control over idle, probably used so you dont make peoples ear drums bleed when standing near it. Any good tuner should be able to remedy this if you want it to whistle at idle..

Thanks for clearing that up. But are there not different count vanes(or whatever you call them) on the front side vs other turbo's?
