We don't learn from history...

The following is a quote attributed to an ancient Roman:

"The budget should be balanced, The treasury should be refilled, Public debt
should be reduced, And the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed,
lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of
living on public assistance." ~~Cicero, 55 B.C.

The problem is that it's not what he said. Instead, Cicero is attributed with saying, "The arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and assistance to foreign hands should be curtailed, lest Rome fall." Different words, but same general meaning.

Why does mankind keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again on a broad scale even though the individuals involved can learn, and HAVE learned, from their own personal mistakes? I don't know how much hope there is left for humanity.

Hey join the club. We have been asking that for years. Many just think that living in different times, that those words are untrue and can't happen to us. Awe, that was such a long time ago.

Arrogance - the only reason this didn't work last time, was that I wasn't in charge of it.
