Slow starting
Ever since I have owned my truck, I have had slow starts. The other day it got so slow that it stopped cranking. I turned it off and retried starting. It cranked it's normal speed but still kind of slow compared to every other powerstoke. I am just worried about the winter, it not starting. I have checked the grounds, cleaned all the terminals, did voltage drop check through out the circuit and had the batteries test. The only voltage drop I had was from the driver side battery to the starter, but it was only .32 volts which shouldn't cause to slow so badly. The only thing I can think of is the starter is the problem, since everything else has checked out. It is just weird, I have never had a starter give me this sort of problem. There either click, don't engage, or just don't work period. Any thoughts before I take the plunge and buy a new starter?

Re: Slow starting
I've had some starters do some wierd stuff. They're electrical so when they go bad, yes, they typically act the same in one way or another. But, when you consider an electrical part going bad, every once in a while you get that one that does something kooky. Like make the garage door open. I had a bad starter on a Road Runner once that made the radio fade in and out and headlights blink. It could be the starter.

Re: Slow starting
change the starter. I had problems with my truck starting in the cold killing batterys ect. just never seemed to turn over fast enough. I had a spare starter put it on. and havent had a problem since.

Re: Slow starting
The only other thing is to check amp draw. I would say starter too. The old rule of thumb I was you need a min of 550 rpm to start a diesel.

My 2000 7.3 never starts on its own unless it's been driven more than 20 min and you try to start int less than 3 hours since you turned it off good batteries all new cable ends
