Bad miss while driving

Driving down the hwy this morning in my '00 F250 5.4 doing about 60 the truck just started to shake and had a bad miss and a poping noise from the tail pipe, No CEL came on. I turned around to leave this truck at home and continue my day with my 7.3. While driving home the miss would go away for a split second then come right back so I'm thinking its electrical. Could this be a bad coil pack? If so how do I test them to find the bad one and wheres the best place to get a replacement coil pack if that is the problem? I have yet to replace any coils in this truck so any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

Is a scan tool worth the price? I can't seem to find anyone that has one around here.

Re: Bad miss while driving

I found a broken hold down tab on the #5 coil pack and the coil was very loose. I bought a new coil pack and installed it and the truck still has a bad miss. I double checked all the connections for the coils and injecters and everything seems fine. Any ideas?

When shes running good it has a little lope at idle. I also don't have a muffler on the truck (yet) and you can hear it clear as day. I took it to my mechanic last year to look into the "lope" and he said everything checked out fine. Have your cousin double check the coils and connecters and go from there.

I'd get that looked at then. My rpms don't jump, the truck just has a miss.

Re: Bad miss while driving

Anyone run into this problem before? I can't be the first one. I have browsed the web and really haven't found any good advice.
