Re: 1986 F250 4x4 conversion
How was the zf swap? I've heard not to bad if you have the two trucks you're swapping right next to each other, or else you make a lot of parts runs. Been thinking about doing the swap, I think it would be better than my c6

Re: 1986 F250 4x4 conversion
Other than just being alot of work, it was pretty "easy". It took me a week from start to finish becauce I had to work on it before and after work. I didnt have the donor truck right next to mine, just make sure you have all the right parts before you start. I had to go on one parts run, it was the reverse light plug, a 11.95 piece.
youll love the 5 speed compared to the c6, its funner to drive, more efficient on the highway, and it is defently getting more power to the ground. Make sure you get a 4x4 crossmember, they hang lower than the 2wd ones.

Re: 1986 F250 4x4 conversion
I'm just having a hard time finding a zf for cheap, one that doesn't need internals that is.

Re: 1986 F250 4x4 conversion
What do you consider cheap? The going rate for JUST the a diesel 4wd trans is 500+

Like trans from a 450 with e-brake looking $800, without everything else.

Re: 1986 F250 4x4 conversion
Now that the trans is done Im trying to focous on getting this D60 under the truck. Im trying to decide on which springs to use. I found X code SD springs on sdtrucksprings.com for 109.95 a pair. From what I undestand, the X codes are the more heavy duty front springs. I plan on having a ranchhand replacment bumper up front, would the "heavy duty" X codes be good for the additional weight of the bumper or should V codes be ok?

Re: 1986 F250 4x4 conversion
V codes would be MORE than adequate(you 86 is at least 1000lbs lighter than an equivalent SD). But I really wouldn't go by those numbers. If you notice, the V code and X code are the SAME part number. But they are FAR from the same spring

Re: 1986 F250 4x4 conversion
Thanks, since they have the same part number, Im having trouble clarifying the V code on sdtrucksprings.com, I cant tell which exact code they are. Do you know of any other good sources to get V codes?
