Exhaust Pressure Sensor eliminator
I broke my exhaust pressure sensor while working on the truck. Should i replace it or just get an eliminator plug for the harness?

Re: Exhaust Pressure Sensor eliminator
Unplug it, remove it, and remove the pipe from the manifold and plug that, and forget about it.
No need for a costly dongle (whatever it costs is more than you need to spend). When you run codes it'll show up, big deal. Makes access to the HPOP gear much easier. It's -only- purpose is to activate the exhaust back pressure valve, and you should have gutted that as soon as you bought the truck.

Re: Exhaust Pressure Sensor eliminator
From reading on the net it seems like the sensor controls more than just the exhaust valve though (which doesnt matter because I do not have one anymore). Some people mentioned it can affect fueling. Another mentioned since it affected the engine it caused his trans to act funny, which now mine is doing right after breaking the sensor.
Im also going to add a boost fooler from BDP at the same time when I get back from vacation next week. I dont know if maybe its the extra boost that causing the issue or what. It takes off hard at first and spins the tires and rolls smoke but then falls off on it face, and then for the rest of the drive its low on power and cant get it to smoke even if I wanted to. And the trans will bang into gear every once in a while and it sounds like the front pump is whining/roaring... |

So it won't hurt just to unplug it?

Re: Exhaust Pressure Sensor eliminator
I have discussed this with the tuning gurus. It does -nothing- for fueling or any operation of the engine whatsoever.
It's sole purpose is to assist the computer in operating the EBPV. When the valve closes it creates more back pressure, and the EBP sensor tells the computer what the valve is actually doing. That's it. Now, it can be handy to have to read back pressure readings, so if you have a scanner or scan gauge and change turbos, etc, it could be useful. But then again, if you are doing that many changes just plumb in a real gauge to read back pressure. |

Re: Exhaust Pressure Sensor eliminator
Ok thanks Jim, i trust what you say. I will not worry about that sensor. My truck was running fine, then i swapped in a new stock turbo with blank pedestal, no valve, SD wheel, and 1.0 housing. Now i have this issue. I was hitting 25 psi max before. Now it seems to boost a little more but the power isnt there. You think the boost fooler will help?
Also, whats the thread of the plug i need to cap the passenger exhaust manifold? |

I don't recall the thread. It's a flare fitting, so you could get a flare cap, or make one. I did that once, flared a piece of tubing, put the flare nut on, cut the tube fairly close to the flare nut, bend it over and hammer it closed. Will seal up fine for the pressure it sees. But I believe just NPT into the manifold, so a NPT plug would work, maybe something like 1/4" NPT I think... |

Re: Exhaust Pressure Sensor eliminator
Ok well i dont want to waste money on a boost fooler if its not needed. Maybe i got a leak somewhere after the turbo swap. Those bottom turbo flange nuts are hard to tighten.

Re: Exhaust Pressure Sensor eliminator
I would hazard a guess that most of the OBS trucks on the road now have the tube that connects the exhaust manifold to the sensor filled with soot and carbon, rendering the sensor useless. Mine was clogged many, many years ago and I did replace it with a new $20 tube. The EBPV was unplugged shortly thereafter, so I haven't looked at the current tube to see if it's clogged or not.
