Re: changed oil and its still black. need help
So is it a good idea to change the hpop oil? Maybe every other oil change? Not to derail this thread even more but it is the $500 FS 2500 kit really worth it?

Re: changed oil and its still black. need help
The oil in the HPOP RES is fed from the pan via the LPOP. It circulates just as much as the oil in the rest of the system. If the engine has been neglected there may be some more gunk in the HPOP RES than te rest of the sysem but that is doubtfull. The oil NEEDS to flow through there to fire the injectors. If it just sat there so would you.

Re: changed oil and its still black. need help
Food for thought. If the oil remains clean all the deposits are in the eng and the detergents are not doing their job ?????
Back in the day of non det oil it would come out just as clean as it went in. Pull a rocker cover & find sludge 1/4" thick everywhere.

Re: changed oil and its still black. need help
Running a Napa Gold filter and Schaeffer's 7000 15w40 oil mine stays clean to 7500 miles. The UOA says I could go further but I feel more comfortable changing it.

Re: changed oil and its still black. need help
Sure it is. Would you use that same "clean" standard for your teeth?

My oil at 7500 miles is a "nice" honey color. The UOA says the oil still has plenty of life in it.....for oil, for me, that is clean. |

Re: changed oil and its still black. need help
my first powerstroke's (1994 with 277,000 on it) oil was black as coal even after changing the hpop oil. my latest powerstroke(2002 with 212,000 on it) had and does have oil as clean as any gasser. it's an x fleet truck, i think they took care of it.
nasty oil can show up in diesel or gas engines. i think the oil should show signs of getting dirty after 3,000 miles, but not filthy. if it's filthy in 500 miles, change it. eventually you'll get it clean enough to go 3,000 or 5,000.

Re: changed oil and its still black. need help
My point is, why the hell can't some of you tell it like it is instead of posting total BS like the above. The only way it will be a nice hone color after 7500 miles is if it has been riding in the back still in the jug.
