I have a 97 f250 xlt 4x4 blah blah blah.......
Two days ago when I went to start it it made a loud click sound like it had a dead battery, but it didn't. Now, sometimes it decides to start, sometimes it doesn't. A few weeks ago I jumped the clutch safety switch. I'm not sure if that would have anything to do with it. Not sure if its a loose wire, bad starter, or something. Let me know if anyone has had this problem and how to fix it. |

Re: 97 7.3 start problems
Check the starter and the connections going to it. Also were the batteries load tested to see if they were good or are you just presuming that they are good?

Re: 97 7.3 start problems
Batteries are fairly new. I swapped a battery out as well just to check. I tried replacing the starter relay (solenoid) and that didn't work. I'm gonna go over the starter next. The starter will click when I turn the key. Think I'm gonna take the starter off, wire it up without it attached and see if it turns. Good plan?

Re: 97 7.3 start problems
Yeah sounds like your starter is dead, have it checked or check it yourself, just be careful they are high torque so youll want to have a good grip on it.

Re: 97 7.3 start problems
So I took the starter off and tested it. Worked fine. Took off the solenoid and checked it out. Seemed okay. I cleaned all the connections, coated them In anti seize and put it all back together. Started up fine. Weird......

Re: 97 7.3 start problems
Maybe it just wanted a little attention
But really sounds like it was a bad connection.

Re: 97 7.3 start problems
Ya I'm sure there was a bad connection somewhere. It all seemed clean and tight when I took it apart though.
