egt to hot school me
When is the egt to hot when damage starts? I have a new rebuild with 238/100 injectors with a 38r Went above 1200 for a few seconds before i notice how hot the egt were.what i am trying to say did i do any damage to anything? Yeah i had a up pipe bolt back off and caused a leak ,and at the same time blew a boot

Aluminum melts at 1220F.

Short shots above 1200 are going to happen, just dont hold it there. Your up pipes and IC boot coming off will also send your EGTs up. Not sure why you blew those. Last time I popped off a IC pipe I had my foot on the floor and I had forgotten to tighten up the clamp all of the way so......... POP! And EGTs went up about 200 degrees or so and I limped it off of the road.

Your perfectly safe to run 1250 all day long. These engines have piston oilers shooting oil under the domes of the piston for cooling. Hell even bone stock trucks from the factory can run 1250 under a good pull. I don't back out of it till 1300 and never had a problem ever. You guys are all paranoid. Lol!!

Must have missed something , not picking up on any parinoia. Just some guys concerned about the well being of their trucks.

I'll run mine 13-1350 for long periods and occasionally hit 1400 passing on a grade. 8 yrs and all is good right now. If alum melted @ 1220 I should have replaced the pistons in mine several years ago.
Mind you my probe is in the manifold not the dp.

Not sure what aluminum alloy is in our trucks but pure aluminum melts at 1220.
I agree, if it was pure alum,then yes we would all have a melted chunk of metal under the hood. I try not to hit 1200 but it happens from time to time but I dont like keeping it there. I start getting antsy at 1100 to be honest. |
