05 F250
Have this truck at work, owner has pretty well given up on and might be able to be had for decent price. Its an 05 F250 4x4 with a 5.4 It needs cam phasers and from what little time I have into it, seams like it has a bad valve on number 8 cyl. My question is, would this truck be a good candidate for a swap? I would like to use the torqshift but I also know this will be difficult due to the complexity of the beast. Anyone had any luck with hooking up a 24v to the torqshift and making it work? If not, i plan to get it anyway and swap all the axles and stuff into my 2000

Re: 05 F250
Well I bought this truck for cheap. This won't be my dd truck for now so I won't be in a rush. I have read about the PCS controller, wiring would be easy but I see that no one has posted about how they got it to work other than "it works" If this were a drag truck, it would be easy because I would only need to upshift at WOT but this is going to be a street truck. Has anyone thought about using the Stand alone TCM that came in the 6.4 trucks with 5r110? I know it would need inputs from HS-CAN network from the PCM, but I'm wondering if this could be done.

Re: 05 F250
I wouldn't use the trans from behind a 5.4, as far as I know there are some differences between the gasser trans, and fords diesel trans. And I know that the tranny behind the 5.4 isn't designed to handle the torque output of a diesel. Another reason I wouldn't use the tranny you have or a diesel 5r, is because they are a pain to tune using a stand alone PCS controller and I believe there are only one or two places that support 5r tuning. Get yourself a built 4r100 w/ a PCS, or a built dodge trans if you want an auto.

Re: 05 F250
Well I don't want to go to a 4r100 unless I have to because that would be going backwards. I'd like to have a 5 or a 6 speed. Which trans i will go with I'm not sure at the moment. I have used a baumann controller before and set up a PCS for someone else, its not that bad. 5r110 cases are the same for gas/diesel so if I end up using it, I will build it first.
I am looking for a 2004.5 to 07 common rail 5.9 with as complete as I can find it. If anyone knows of anything for sale please let me know. Not much for sale up here. |

Re: 05 F250
6.7's seem to be easier to come by. There are plenty on Ebay.

Re: 05 F250
Haven't checked Ebay, never had any luck with it.
Wouldn't mind goin to a 6.7 I just figured there would be more support for the 5.9. project20v where did you get your engine from? I have been following your thread as well as me2's. How much would a 5.9 or 6.7 go for? can pm me if you want. |

Re: 05 F250
Okay I have pretty well given up on my search for the Cummins swap. Its not so much the fact that I can't find an engine, I just don't have the time to do such an undertaking in the space that I have right now, which is basically none. So looks like that is a done deal.
However, a new idea is on the rise when a guy I know made me a ridiculous offer that I refused but it got me thinking. Sell the 5.4/ 5r110. Purchase a 7.3/ 4r100 combo with pcm and wiring. I can swap the body harness' to a 99-03 along with the engine/trans harness. Put an 03 cluster in it which is bolt in. My Pros - Little to nill hackjob wiring issues, almost everything will be OEM. - Motor/Trans mounts will all be bolt in as far as I can tell. - Excellent parts availability (work for a dealer as well) - good because it will be a DD - 7.3's are easy to find cheap and I can rebuild before the install and upgrade as I wish. - I'll have a 7.3 with the new style body and suspension (be pretty awesome) My Cons -Still a Heui engine (not that it matters, at least i'm experienced with them) -Going to a 4 speed (at least it will be pretty bulletproof) -A bit more costly when it comes to upgrades Anyone have any comments, suggestions, opinions? Anything you want to add? I'd be glad to hear it. I want to keep this truck but I can't go back to gas. Drove my dad's f150 all last week and it was just weird! |

Re: 05 F250
Ill be the emissions nazi. As long as you dont have emissions testing, no one will catch it. If you do, you'll be doing a lot of work for a truck you wont be able to register. I dont like doing things twice, or having trucks I cant sell, so I stay on the OK side of swaps for emissions, even though I dont have testing in my area.

Re: 05 F250
A good point. We do have emissions testing up here. For the weight category that it will be in (my 2000 F350 rclb just barely sneaks in here) is just a visual smoke test. It should pass that without an issue.
I haven't really talked to anyone about it, but from what I have been reading I'm not supposed to go backwards in emissions (truck should have a 6.0 by model year) but there are a lot of loop holes in our system up here. I totally agree, I don't want to have to go through all this work and basically have a show truck. |

Re: 05 F250
Just go with the 7.3 smh. Also if your unsure about the 4R100, I see Destroked makes a 7.3-to-Allison adapter plate. Food for thought
