Flywheel question..
I have a 1995 that I just had the flywheel conversion done on, I put a Southbend Clutch Kit in it and have a couple questions on it.
Now when downshifting or going slow their is a loud sound that is hard to explain, just loud sound that was not there before. Not grinding or anything like that just a lound growling type noise. I took it back and had them look over it and was told it is normal for this sound to be heard after doing the conversion. The noise is the transmission basically holding the engine back and with the single mass flywheel there is no give so you hear this sound...Normal or have any of you heard this before? They said even if I was to put a new transmission in I would still hear this noise. I did not have this noise before doing the conversion. Also I have a slight vibration in the steering wheel when I take off and first go in each gear and it stops after getting to higher RPM's....It did not do this before the conversion so what would cause this vibration? Anything to do with the conversion or not? Thanks for your help. |

Re: Flywheel question..
That is a very normal noise for a single mass flywheel.

Re: Flywheel question..
![]() That noise is normal. After a while you won't even notice it.

Re: Flywheel question..
I use gear oil in mine and the noise is gone. With gear oil I have to double clutch when the transmission is cold or it will grind but when its hot I can shift it smoother and faster then my brothers Mercedes!

Re: Flywheel question..
Vibration might be a driveline issue, Maybe they seperated the slip yoke and re-assembled it out of time.

Re: Flywheel question..
No, because the oil is hot when you park so it all runs out of the bearing. Then once you start your truck it takes quite awhile for the oil to warm up. It take my truck over ten miles to get the tranny temp over 100 degrees if its 50 or 60 degrees out. I know this first hand cause my dad tried running 80-90 and it wasnt long after that the input shaft bearing went out. After we tore the tranny down we discovered the drip system. I like to put a quart of lukas tranny saver in mine then top it off with atf.
