Hey everyone I am new to this site and I have a question for you. We have a 2001 Ford F250 SD with the 7.3 liter, The problem that I am having is this morning I was moving my trailer and went to shut the truck off because I needed the keys for the tailgate. So I go and shut the truck off and it is shut off for about 10 min's, then I go and start the truck up again and let it run for a few minutes. When I went to put the truck in drive I pushed on the pedal and nothing happened, it is like the truck was in neutral. I had the rev the engine while in drive up to around 2700 rpms just to get the truck to even barely move. But the truck will work in reverse. I have checked the linkage and is was tight. I changed the fluid and there was no metal shavings or nothing. I am thinking that it may be the Tranny pump? What do you think? thank you

It isn't the pump. You wouldn't have reverse either if it was the pump. Your transmission range sensor may have gone bad or have been knocked out of adjustment. That is the sensor that is on the driver side of the transmission behind the shift lever. There are two small hash marks that need to be aligned perfectly or it will throw the transmission into OD instead of first gear.

Ah crap. I missed that it is an 01. Yep you probably exploded the dam diode. Your going to have to rebuild it then. Sorry bud.

I just found a tranny with 44,000 miles on if for a good price. it came out of a 2003 and it says it will fit a 2001 with the 5.4 liter. My question is will this tranny still fit in the 7.3 liter diesel and still be string enough? This is exactley wha is says (FORD F250SD PICKUP 01 A.T.; (4R100), 8-330 (5.4L), 4x4, ID 1C3P-BC)

Only a diesel trans fits a diesel, a bb trans fits a bb, and a small block fits a small block.

Ok, I found a tranny for a 7.3 liter but it is for a 4X2 and we have the 4X4. Can we unbolt the back part of the tranny and bolt the transfercase on to it? or does the tranny have to be for the 4X4 also? I also found a new tranny for a 00-05 ford excursion with the 7.3 liter, will it work in it or is just a little bit different? Because the price it $100 dollar difference between the too. But this one is for a 4X4.

You might have something rare on your hands if I understand you correctly. After mid 03, they went to the 6.0L truck so how will your trans fit?

Nope the output shaft on the 2 wheel trans is longer and will not work on a 4 wheel. If you find one from an f superduty which is the obs body you can pull the brake assembly off the trans and it will work.

I wouldn't waste the money on a used one bite the bullet and get yours rebuilt or get a ford reman. The odds of getting a "good" used one is not very good. And you will most likely end up with a broken truck again in 6 months.

Ok, this tranny from the 00-05 excursion is re manufactured with 0 miles on it as well as the F250 tranny. 0 Miles on it to. I just didnt know if we could save to $100 dollars between the excursion tranny and the tranny for the F250 sd. But We are going to get the tranny rebuilt or get the Re manufactured tranny.

my .02.........................

go ahead and 86 the rebuilt trans unless it is from bts or john woods

reman from FORD only or built by bts or john woods should be considered the only choices

#14 ·
A BTS or JW is a new trans, not really a rebuild.. everything is new and is
way overbuilt for anything you will put at it unless you put $15K in the engine.

It will be the last transmission you buy. I plan on keeping my truck for many
years so I dropped in a BTS when mine started slipping. Done, no more
trans problems..

Tell them you want the z-pak clutch kit and the updated 6 pinion sprag and the tricumulator update and if you want firmer shift and better tc lockup then you want to have them do a .427 or .500 valve and the tcc valve modified.

I have a 2001 F-250 Power Stroke with an Automatic transmission. When I pull out from a stop, the transmission winds up until i let off the gas peddle. Once I let off, then it shifts gears and runs normal through the rest of the gears till i have to stop or slow down again. Does anyone happen to know what the problem may be? I just changed the filter and fluid which had the burned fluid smell to it.

#22 ·
Yes, I know what the problem is. Your transmission needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

In 2001 Ford installed a new type of one way clutch called a Mechanical Diode. They were VERY prone to failure, so they went out of production towards the end of the 2001 model year. When they fail the symptom is a delayed or non-existent 1-2 shift. All other shifts are normal.

That is exactly how it is shifting. RPM's go up to 3,000+ and then it shifts, or sometimes, i have to let off the pedal to get it to shift. once it shifts into 2nd, everything else shifts fine.
Also, is there any easier way of looking to see which transmission I need, without dropping mine to look?

Thanks for any and all help.
Brian

As i was leaving my shop the other day from having my brother look at the tranny tag for me, i noticed I can not put my truck all the way down into 1st gear. The shift lever on the column will not allowe me to drop past 2nd. it sits tight against the plastic. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.
Brian
