Just started the truck & I'm waiting for it to warm up. I can tell my relay is going bad because the plugs will stay on for 2-5 seconds. Not good when it's 32* outside! It did start but it made all kinds of fuss & I had to keep it cranking. I know This has to be fixed as soon as I get back from vacation. So who makes a good relay for the old IDIs? Auto Zone told me $145 or so. I don't know if I want to bother calling the dealer. How about a stock International relay, what are you IDI guys running?

Sure you don't have a bad glow plug? Short cycle time is normal with a bad plug or two. When relay takes a dump the plugs don't work.

Do not buy electrical stuff from Autobone it is crap, My old idi gave me issues along time all it needed was a water temp sensor , it is on the pass side front kinda beside the pump. This 40 dollar part ended all those foul words spoken as a froze my balls off or hoping I could park close enough to an electrical outlet. I would also check all the glow plugs just as the feller above said. Also pull the gp relay and look at the under side of it if it is all melted then there is your problem, I had one do that sooo after replacing that and the water temp sensor she started like she was supposed to.
P.S. The glow plug controller I got was from international.

Even in the middle of summer & fully warmed up my Temp gauge still reads only about 1/4 to 1/3 of the way up. I always thought that it should read more than that so I'm guessing that my temp sensor is bad too? Would it hurt to just go ahead & change all of the glow plugs out since I have a couple sets of em?
I know it can't be too hard, but is there anything I need to know when I'm swapping out glow plugs? Anything to do or not do? :poke:

You can find them on fleabay. Kit includes hose, o rings, return caps, and hose clips. You will get the copper washers for the injectors too.
