974DR 02-03-2011, 03:24 AM Has anyone put coil springs with a D50 TTB? I don't want to hear everybody raving about how good there D60 swap was. I am very happy with my TTB, don't have anything bad to say about it. Six years and 55,000 miles I've owned the truck never had tires worn funny, or anything else people complain about. So I want to keep the D50 and lower the truck a little bit. It has 4 inches of lift right now. Little to tall, but stock height is to low. I would like to end up with about 2.5" of lift and a nice ride. Thinking of using stock
'05+ Super Duty coils and upper brackets with custom radius arms and mounts. Has anyone done this? Any pics out there? Thanks
hendricksbus 02-03-2011, 07:38 PM i want to do the same thing but with helper air bags!
diesel_brad 02-03-2011, 10:50 PM I have seen it done on a 2wd dually converted to a 4wd using a D50 but somehow the used D44 coil spring brackets and radius arms from a F150
f250rollinon37s 02-04-2011, 03:45 AM ive researched this a little. i love my 95 but she is a little rough in the ride department. i have seen a few using home made radius arms and 2wd frame mounts and coils. personally i was going to find a 2wd at a JY and steal the coils and towers. the spring rate will be off a little because the lenght of the ttb compared to the i beams.
i planned on putting her on 2.5" 10" coilovers. but now i have the CC so funds have been going to that insted
97Beast 02-04-2011, 03:58 AM Back in the day they had coil conversion kits for the D50 TTB. They used the rear hanger for the radius arm, although it only allowed for very limited pivoting. These kits obviously werent too great. A stock looking spring tower was also used. They also featured a sway bar as well. I've seen quite a few of these kits, one on a truck for sale on ebay a month or so ago.
But I suppose a Coil D50 can be had easily if you swap 2wd or D44 TTB spring buckets and radius arms.
Just alot of work and engineering. I guess i'd hold out for a D60. lol
OldschoolPSD 02-04-2011, 04:05 AM use coil buckets and springs off of a 350 2wd or 350 van, get some aftermarket extended radius arms for an F-150/bronco should ride like a caddilac
974DR 02-04-2011, 11:33 PM One of the ideas in my head was a set of ex. length half ton radius arms like you said. I need to find one and take some measurements, I'm not sure if the D50 beams are taller than the D44 or not. Thanks for the input guys, I seen a pic of an OBS with a coil susp. Super Duty axle swap. Silver ex. cab, can't find it again, but I would like to see the coil tower mounted on the OBS frame.

That silver truck you're talking about is Wearewierd69's truck. He has 05 axles and suspension. The conversion looks really clean, and he had it all put together in one weekend.. Look in the OBS PIC thread towards the last pages, you'll find it somewhere.
diesel_brad 02-05-2011, 08:37 PM I'm trying to get you some pics of the TTB D50 converted to a coil spring w radius arms
04yfzkid 02-06-2011, 02:07 AM I have yet to see one on coil springs, only a couple on coilovers.
Would anyone be interested in a bolt up kit (minus the welding of mounts to beams) for coilovers? I wouldn't mind do it before I c&t my beams and extending them.

YES Give me any info you come up with but w a D60

I can try that. Not sure how caster will work though because I am pretty sure beams have a lot of caster built into the radius arms.
OldschoolPSD 02-07-2011, 09:34 PM Should be easier with a D60... just weld your radius arm mounts to the axle tubes. any camber adjustment needed can be done right there at the tube.
I would weld on '78/79 bronco style axle wedges in the stock location, and run some beefy aftermarket radius arms with 4* bushings and a stock f-350 track bar and steering. 6" of lift on a stock f-150 takes 7* of correction with stock arms, about 4* with extended arms. and the ride height of a stock f-350 is the same as a 6" lifted f-150/bronco.
I've kicked this idea around for years ever since I did a coil sprung D44 solid axle swap in my '93 F-150, but i never got a chance to do it on a one ton.
FRAMETWISTINGHP 02-07-2011, 09:53 PM I PUT A DANA 60 UNDER MY BRONCO WITH FABRI-TECK 12 INCH EXTENDED RADIUS ARMS AND 9 INCH SKYJACKER COILS ...IT RODE GOOD CONSIDERING WHAT IT WAS ....GETTING A SPRING IN THERE WONT BE THE HARD PART IT WILL BE MAKING THE RADIUS ARMS

Why do you suggest spring buckets from a van?
