joedaddy 12-25-2010, 08:35 PM This may be 1 of the dumbest wastes of $ I've ever ventured into... but it's something I wanted to do since I got into diesels. I origenaly came to this site wanting something like this.
The donnor trucks are a 95' ZF5spd that hasn't run in nearly 6 years! and an 80's sb reg cab. In that time the drivers side VC was removed and some of the parts robbed. I'm hoping the VC removal was a inquery into the breakdown which is descibed as - Bob Hurley Ford Tulsa Ok 03/04/05 - The engine had been running rough and the check engine lamp keeps coming on.Then the engine died and won't restart. Test and diag has low oil pressure and low fuel pressure and cranking sounds like cylinder low on compression. Cust declined further testing for comp test and declined all repairs. 123,388 miles.
I have a receipt for a new trans and clutch on 09/11/02 @ 95,366 miles. It had 35,792 miles when the previous owner bought it on 04/20/95 so it averaged 10k per year and considering it was an 11ft flat bed I'm assuming all city driving.
I'll be asking for advice on how to get it going and how to rebuild if it's junk. Low oil and fuel psi sounds like low oil to me. Funny how techs rarely check that. Just sold a pickup that Dodge swore was a bad trans that only needed a new filter . I'm gonna drain the oil and refill with some 10/30 throw a couple new bats in and see what happens, wish me luck!
Oh... here's some pics. It's rust free and has only 1 small fixable ding. The inside is sparse just like I wanted and it's not Aunt Flow Red.

joedaddy 12-25-2010, 11:02 PM Yah... for what I paid for it I could double my $ on the cab and clip alone.
Now all I got to do is find someone who wants to make a dually out of their single.
joedaddy 12-27-2010, 06:49 PM Interesting devlopment. Got a line on a couple broncos, 1's white :D
RMPowerstroke 12-27-2010, 06:54 PM good luck with it hope it wirks out

will the dually rear fit under a standard 97 F350 pickup? and 4:10 gears?
joedaddy 12-28-2010, 02:58 PM will the dually rear fit under a standard 97 F350 pickup? and 4:10 gears?
Yes, and the front hubs will swap w/250-350. I'm not sure about the gear and don't know the serial # to check. I'll check for a tab today.
Chimera 12-29-2010, 02:58 AM ok, thanks man. shoot me a PM with a price for the parts and shipping to 97103
joedaddy 01-02-2011, 08:41 PM Efforts to get the donor running this weekend were quashed by a missing ICP sensor and cold weather.
Here's the donor chassis. It's 4wd but not for long. It's 13" shorter than a short bed and 105" WB which is 7" shorter than a SWB IIRC. Should be pretty interesting.

95 Stroker 01-03-2011, 12:35 AM what all are you looking to get rid of on that truck that you are using as a donor?
Am interested in a couple of things off it.

Which truck? the white 1 is the cab and engine/trans for the red trucks chassis.

I'll measure.

You are correct... and that completly changes the outcome. The Bronco is on its way to China to be turned into poisonous toys and the C&C is getting chopped! The plan is to shorten the frame to SWB specs and find a good white bed. The frame being narrower is an incredible bonus! Some big sticky's will be going in widened wells.
I'm looking into weather or not 1/2 ton TIB's will bolt in place of the 1 ton TIB's. If so this toy just got a WHOLE LOT easier!

TIB= twin i-beam? if its anything like the 4x4 ttb system it should be a direct bolt-in..
Worstenemy453 03-31-2011, 03:53 AM Any updates ?
joedaddy 04-03-2011, 03:22 PM Not for awhile, the Green truck is getting the next toys and then the White/Gold truck is getting a D60 and T-case, then mods. The 1/2 ton is just a back story at the present. It's as likely to be an all out race truck as it is a mud racer. Just dunno yet
joedaddy 04-23-2011, 01:30 AM Well... it's back to the front of the line. Going to cobb together a running SWB 1/2 as quick as I can to beat this rising fuel and still drive my vehicle of choice. On the hunt for a swb 1/2 ton for suspension. :ford:

Arisley 04-25-2011, 12:12 PM Saw an older (60's) generation Chevy body and frame in good looking shape last weekend. One of those with a SD in it would be pretty sweet.

joedaddy 04-25-2011, 04:33 PM 10-4 well either way you're in the right place :psn:
wanabebig 04-25-2011, 04:39 PM I do kinda like the place. Love the projects and stuff goin on round here.. And have thought bout puttin a stroke in my 85 after a cab change.. Dang rust.
joedaddy 04-26-2011, 02:09 PM Found a 96 swb dark green with grey int. Looks like it has everything I need except bumper.
Going to get it Saturday.

92-97 no holes. Preferably not Chrome.
vanderchevy18 04-26-2011, 11:12 PM Git r done joe!!!
Zack bought kenny's old truck. He lives in wichita.
joedaddy 05-17-2011, 04:12 PM Well... the saga continues. While attending the TS OUTLAW my wife surprised me with You should build yours like that! as the WOP Lightning rolled by.
After much consideration, and after watching 7 of 8 bracket trucks break out not to mention leave on green I've decided to build this into a work/drag truck. I'm going to ditch the 5spd and put the cab on my 96 ecsb 2wd auto. The frame will get chopped and some things will get moved around underhood. The 7.3 in the 96 is very strong so it shouldn't take much to make a consistent 13.?? Bracket racer.
It will remain a driver and continue to make $ but the gn ball is gone. I'll keep the 250 rear and front for strength and reliability. I'll also keep the build here though it will no longer be a 1/2 ton hand shaker.

vanderchevy18 05-22-2011, 02:14 AM You better hurry! You only have 2 weeks to finish it before the races june 4th!!! :hehe:
joedaddy 06-13-2011, 06:02 PM I was hoping to have some pics of shiny freshly painted frame rails and some pic-n-stab cab pics but I spent the whole weekend trying to get that damnded cab off and failed. I could've just wrapped a chain and rolled it of but I'm trying to get some practice for when I lift the good cab. I've never lifted a rc b4 without damaging it, done several cc's and a couple ec's. Rc's have the worst center G ever!
joedaddy 07-24-2011, 02:16 AM 08/05/11 tick-tock... tick-tock...
Power Smoker 07-24-2011, 07:05 AM keep the hand shaker!!! '13' seconds and 'fast' don't really go in the same sentence anyway. the manual would be the cool factor, and you own it already. you can still make it fast, and spend the money getting it together and running first. - then spend the $$$ down the road on a race-worthy auto trans if you haven't changed your plans a billion more times by then anyway. Throw the '80's nose and bed on it, and drive it for a while. -keep up the good work

Except for the 80's nose... you're reading my mind. I had given up on this until yesterday when I realized my DD had given all it was going to. Now I have an engine... and no more excuses. I'm taking vacation 8/1 - 8/5 so I have 9 days to run through it. Amazingly I discovered the 1st shaft is EXACTLY the right length for a swb chassis.
Pic's to come.
joedaddy 07-25-2011, 04:30 PM Had family over yesterday so all I managed was to get the hood off and kill the hornets that were squatting in the cowl of the f350.
vanderchevy18 07-26-2011, 12:28 AM So you're sticking with it? Cool!

Had to Take the ASB cross down to make room for the rad support. The ASB will be the only thing in it's place :evil

The engine and trans should get the front down but I'm going to have to lower the rear.
http://i888.photobucket.com/albums/ac85/1800joedaddy/handshaker005.jpg
Getting some ideas on the rad placement. The bumper is going to the same pile as the Rad core saddle.
Alberta 7.3 09-01-2011, 02:53 AM Good to see this thing is taking off. I'm doing the same thing, but with F250 axles.
joedaddy 11-07-2011, 12:54 AM Finally some progress.
After much himhawing around the inital idea has been revived.
The time and effort to swap this into an auto would only result
in a auto that won't shift when I want it to anyway. The
engine/trans has been stabbed to check fit and pulled again
for fab. The seat is finally out to make way for some 01 Lariet
leather.
Pics.

And heres some small changes with some photo shopping.
What do you think, White grill or Black?

http://i888.photobucket.com/albums/ac85/1800joedaddy/IMAG0239-3.jpg
Alberta 7.3 11-07-2011, 02:04 AM I'd go with a white grille (color matched) like a gen 1 lightning.
Did you need to remove that steering gaurd/skidplate to fit the diesel rad support?
joedaddy 11-07-2011, 03:40 AM I'd go with a white grille (color matched) like a gen 1 lightning.
Did you need to remove that steering gaurd/skidplate to fit the diesel rad support?
Yes, it hits. I think it can be modded.
I broke my right ring finger pulling rusty cross meber bolts so I had to stop LOL Hopefully I've got enough momentum to see this thru.
Alberta 7.3 11-07-2011, 03:49 AM Ouch.
Yeah, these projects take time/effort. I finally have my cab stripped and started to do body work.
If the sway bar won't work, you can get an aftermarket one from National Parts Depot that goes behind the engine crossmember.
joedaddy 11-16-2011, 01:53 PM No pics but the engine and trans are in to stay now. I got a U-joint coming tomorrow to connect the stock CnC front shaft to the 8.8 1/2 ton rear. It's a precision #459 if anyone's curious.
I hope to have the driveline finished and the cab back on with the wiring connected this weekend.
joedaddy 12-02-2011, 10:28 PM Some progress tonight b4 the storm. Got the broken exh mani bolt pulled and new in.
