almost burned my leg

We had a vendor bring by some equipement yesterday and they arrived in a new 08 6.4. We started to unload it and I was standing by the tailpipe when I noticed I was too close to the pipe. That thing was FN hot!!! It must have been in regen mode because you could not get within a foot of the pipe without getting toasted. There must be a better way to cool the exhaust down. But on a better note, the truck had 15k miles and not one problem according to the driver....

Yeah I don't know about that regen it is to hot people could get burned just think if you had shorts on, and when you take your truck into a dry grass field.

They get way too hot. I had my truck backed up in front of the shop for a while and left it running. It went into regen and I had to move it in fear of someone getting burned walking by it. Could you imagine if a small child walked by and touched it? I see some lawsuits coming in Ford/GM/Chryslers future.

I will second that one.

You would think that they could just program the truck to where it cannot go into regen while its parked.

I hear that Nater......

I worry more about a 3 or 4 year old walkin by, and gettin it in the face. Most times they don't know what to do, and stand there a bit before their litle brains tell them to move........

I agree NO REGENS in park.....to easy IMO. Or even better set it to the park brake, when it is on no regen. I would think it would be fairly easy to do.

When I put the B&W turnover the "hump" in the exhaust hit the hitch so I just left the muffler back off and put a turndown tip on it. I was unloading my trailer and it went into regen in dry grass. It didn't catch fire but burnt coal black.

Brings new meaning to the term "weed burner" exhaust!

I work at a body shop, and hearing all this makes me wonder how long the paint will last above the tail pipe. If its that bad it won't be long before we see beds rused out because of this.

Not my truck but I wish I have a 93 KW T- 600. The truck in my sig. is a 76 or so W900a I do have the aerodyne 63" standup sleeper just like the one in the pic. My truck is the same red color but I have Budwieser inspired flames Long story truck was hit at a drilling rig and the paint quality was horrible from the local KW shop after repair, so me and a bud and a 24 pack and some spare paint and it was on like donky kong. I have a pic. in my phone of my truck I will see if I can post it. I just got thru getting it ready for the road as I am leaving to put it to work this week.

Yeah, when Ford is forced to do something. Doubt they'd volunteer to change it unless a lawsuit or something similar happens.

Yeah, when Ford is forced to do something. Doubt they'd volunteer to change it unless a lawsuit or something similar happens.COME ON! When do you finally take resposibility for your own actions? McDonalds coffee is hot! To date, I don't stand next to ANY exhaust pipes, I dont touch them either (I am smart enough to realize they are hot!) Any exhaust pipe is hot enough to burn a child. Thats what is wrong with todays society, they're all sue happy!

I agree on that, but theres allways that one person who seees $ signs when something like that happens. You can't even trust a person to walk up on your front portch and not sue you if they trip and fall. There are people though that want to make it very hard to sue someone for stupid things like this, there thought is these law suits are cloging up the court system and costing every one in the end.

Acording to my brother who has a 08 6.4 Dually, Ford is reflashing the computer so it won't regen unless the truck is at 20mph or over. One guy's garage caught fire when the truck regened while he was inside talking on the phone. The plastic shelving up against the wall caught fire, and then the paint on the shelves fell,---- boom! :(

I know that the big Cummins (ISB, etc) have a setting in the ECM, which can disable regen if below 30 mph. Unfortunately some OEMs need to turn that off, since their vehicles (garbage trucks, buses) rarely see sustained operation over 30 mph.

As far as lawsuits go, I would like it if someone sued CARB for coming up with this crap in the first place!

Michael Pliska

Someone should stop them! I saw Trick My Truck was talking about the fact that you can install a PF on an older Semi to me regulations & save the world!
I wonder how much they paid them to say that!

The best solution to this problem is to change the after treatment process. The Bluetec Diesels use Urea (Glorified Piss)to scrub the exhaust prior to the cat. It's another fluid to carry but it's got to be cheaper than fuel is @ this point. Plus that process does not waist fuel cleaning the DPF and ceeps the mileage up.
