Thanks.

Pieces are metal/steel they are magnetic... While the pan was off I inspected all the exposed areas for anything out of the ordinary. All looks well. Needle bearing cage of some sorts was my WAG as well.... Where the heck is a small needle bearing within the tranny?

This kinda bothers me since 14-22nd of this month we wll be draggin the 5ver out west to the Grand Canyon, then to Vegas on a family vacation....

If it aint broke dont fix it???

That cant be healthy, Id have a hard time believing it will be safe to tow anything with that showing up in the bottom of a trans pan.

Looks like the o/d piston return spring snap ring popped off as they do and has eaten away parts of the coast drum. Either way I'd be getting it torn into and fixed. Whatever you do be it a full build or a fix job get the Sonnax spirolock ring for 10 bucks and resolve the issue. Ford does some dumb ass stuff and this was one of them.

You pretty confident that is what the peices are? Man this trans seems to shift and run out just fine. These things were laying in the little valley in the center pan, they had been there for quite sometime because the pan was all shiny from the pieces riding around...... Anything I can check or verfiy things are working ok... besides tearin it down?

It would take it a while to eat through the drum, only real symptom of it being off would be a firmer 3-4 shift and this could be covered up by the pwm of the converter at the time of the gear change.

actually it looks more like pieces of the return spring ground off by the coast drum, either way you need to get it split open and fixed.

Ok, I will call Brian first thing Monday morning and hash it out with him, maybe email him these pics.. Depending on what he says, either way I'll be the one tearing into it. We are supposed to leave for vacation this coming Friday....maybe not:(
