Rope Seal

Any one every replace a rope seal of any kind? I have a 1952 TO-30 massey and i'm trying to figure out the best way to install a new one.

I have done dozens of rope rear main seals.

Do you have to split the tractor to peplace or is there a specialty tool?

I'm not familiar with the engine you are working on. All of the ones I've done without removing the crankshaft have been tough. You will also not get a first class result without removing the crank. There are some tools made for replacing one.

I've done one with that little tool that is like a spring you screw into the seal and pull it to the other side it is a PITA. I would drop the crank and do it, thats how I did the other couple I worked on. Much easier and better job IMHO.
