No Start Sometimes?

It is my uncles 05 with about 70k miles all stock. This weekend I was with him and we came out of the store and it would not start. No smoke no nothing out of the tail pipe. He said that it has done this a few times before getting worse though. So we had to leave the truck sitting there since it would not start... Well we came back about a hour later and fired right up. He said it has happened sometimes where it wont start for hours:confused: Is this the FICM since there is no fuel smoke coming out of the tail pipe or no hickup trying to start? Thanks

sounds like a high pressure oil leak.

I dont think it is that. You can crank and crank and crank and nothing. It will do it sometimes not all the time. It will go a few days with out doing it then all a sudden it will do it again...

SCT fitting on the HPOP, will cause rough running, engine dying, and not starting when hot.

Ok now what needs to be done to fix this?

Do a search for STC and you should find tons of info. I don't know the details since my '03 doesn't have that problem, but you have to access it through the HPOP cover under the turbo, so the turbo and pedestal have to be removed first.

Get the updated fittings, they can be found on the Diesel Technician Society. Then start pull everything out till you can get to the HPOP. Remember, there is a special tool you need to reinstall it, but you can fab it yourself. Also, you will need the correct size crows foot.

Yea I think he can take it some where. I am not trying to work on his truck... I will recomend innovative to him. This sounds like the problem though. Will not start until the truck is cooled all the way down and then fires right up.

I had the exact same symptoms. Replaced the HPOP, STC fittings, and branch tube.

FWIW, if you're in a bind and need to get the truck started, you can remove the intake tube and spray some WD-40 down there while someone is cranking the motor. DON'T use ether. Truck should fire right up.
